About this listen

Young Omen Daenoth cannot control his deadly supernatural powers. The only thing keeping him from inadvertently destroying everyone and everything around him is a dragon-forged artifact. But when the item is stolen, Omen can either give up his freedom and admit he's a monster, or find a way to rein in his chaotic psionics.

Terrified his devastating power will kill an innocent, Omen enters into a shady deal with an undead alchemist and fights his way through the fabled, underground Night Games of the arcane city of Hex to retrieve what he has lost.

When he inadvertently frees a talking cat, his erratic powers may be the only weapon capable of protecting this new companion from savage creatures out for feline blood. Can Omen protect the cat and the people of Hex, or will he be forever lost to darkness?

Full of Magic, Mayhem, Bargaining, and Adventure!

I’ve seen this book on a lot of freebie promotions and downloaded it. Less than a few pages in, I didn’t want to stop reading for my lovely life-chosen work and chores. So I downloaded the audiobook.

There’s just something innocent yet ominous about making the best of a situation when you’re a teen and your parents make you do something you don’t want to.
Mischief and misadventures lead them to Hex where they have to continuously bargain for items for information or requested items to exchange for information or items. Did that make sense?
The world building and magic system was enjoyable and easy to learn. It unfolded without being sluggish or clogging the momentum.
I purred when Tormy was introduced and was yowling when they learned someone else wanted him!
I loved this book and I can’t wait to get to the next books in the series!
PJ was an incredible narrator who gave characters their own voices and his tempo flowed with the action.
Highly recommended for youth and the young at heart for an exciting fantasy!

Strange Pace, Great Delivery!

It took me a while to get invested in this story. I stuck with it because of the positive reviews and the overall premise. The story did come together and pick up about halfway through. At times I wasn’t sure I could adjust to the construction style - certain things are explained or things happen or terms used without context. The author does give context and explanation eventually which helped me feel more informed and engaged as a listener.

As the world got more fleshed out, the characters became more interesting, and the story itself made more sense.

The narrator does an excellent job! When the story seemed to waiver for me, the narrator’s skill kept me hooked.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue to the next book in the series, but the epilogue at the end of this book intrigued me enough that I simply can’t say goodbye to these characters yet!

Came for the kitty, stayed for the fun!

A fun adventure full of quests, monsters, and magic. It took me a little while to get into this one, but I stayed for the promise of a giant kitten and am very glad I did. Though the kitten didn't show up until about the 3/4 mark, I ended up really liking the human characters, especially Templar with his odd mixture of being both a troublemaker and a pretty darn good prince to his people. Then Tormy (the kitten) showed up and I glommed onto him just as Omen did. I have an orange tabby myself, and I couldn't help but picture Pidge fighting the baddies, slurping up meat pies, and speaking with hilarious conjugation. The authors are definitely cat-owners! Excited for the next book!

Surprisingly good!

I am impressed with the quality of the characters and storyline of this book. I expected it to be a bit juvenile, but is quite well written. At first I was dubious because there were no cats even though the title indicated that there would be. When Tormie finally showed up, he was a breath of fresh air and quite hilarious. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Surprised me after a dry spell.

Man, I had low hopes for this but each of the characters was interesting and easy to follow. No over the top edginess just two wholesome characters up to shenanigans. The story was intriguing and I can't wait for the next adventure!

An amazing audiobook

Loved it!! This was an awesome listen. The narrator was great at disguising his voice to play multiple characters, making the story come to life. Bravo!!

cats & dragons!

At first I thought that I had accidentally started a book 2, but after I checked, I was assured I was on book one. I enjoyed this story, it has sword fights and psi/magic. I hope the next books build the world a little better. Background was hard to discern. It is action filled. the kitten is cute, but the scottish accent-maybe not will the exaggerated words? I would listen to a second book.

Left me with a big smile on my face.

The questionable accents aside. There is a lovely charm to this book and the characters. The cat in particular always made me smile in particular,
