In einem elsässischen Städtchen warten Soldaten und Zivilisten gebannt auf Neuigkeiten. Sie hören die Kunde einer Revolution, ausgehend von Matrosen in Kiel und von dort weitergetragen in das ganze deutsche Reich.

Wir begleiten unter anderen den verwundeten Oberleutnant Becker auf der Suche nach neuen Werten und dürfen miterleben, wie die tief gespaltene Bevölkerung sich auf die Besatzung durch französische Truppen vorbereitet.
