About this listen

An Exorcists Audiobook

The Exorcists are a Space Marine Chapter unlike any other. To combat the forces of Chaos, they willingly accept daemonic possession, knowing that once it is purged their shattered souls will no longer be susceptible to corruption. Those who fail the banishment trials become Broken Ones – living prisons for the terrors expelled from their brethren. Should such desperate measures become known to the wider Imperium, the Chapter would stand accused of the vilest of heresies.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Discover what happens when a Broken One is freed, and a daemonic conspiracy threatens to unveil the dark rituals of the Exorcists.

THE STORY

The Exorcists dispatch their Vanguard elite, the Hexbreakers, in a desperate quest to hunt down a Broken One, but the connection between their quarry and the strike force commander, Daggan Zaidu, is more than it first appears.

Depth of characters

Finally the Exorcists get a novel and in depth look. The exploration of what they give up and the lasting scars on them was great.

As a fan of theirs from the Dearhwatch novels featuring Watcher and his vigil over their team’s Librarian, it was great to see the chapter get some depth.

Highly recommend it

One Hell of a Ride

This was my first time learning about the Exorcists in Warhammer 40k. I knew nothing about them and wow are they a great read. You get to follow a little known loyalist chapter that also dabbles in the occult in order to fight the occult.

The big draw of this book is the Exorcists and learning more about what is probably one of the most interesting chapters in Warhammer 40k. You get to see everything from their initiation, their views on life and brotherhood, and their own unique rituals. All of this while on an exciting hunt for a broken one (a brother being used as a prison for demons) that includes demon plots and a whole lot of chaos.

The only thing that detracted for me was the narrator. He is fine, but sometimes I found his voice to be too monotone. The story was great and the narrator was decent, but he was just hard for me to listen to straight through.

Full Metal Grim Dark!

Wow! Excellent story concerning the controversial (heretical by some) Exorcists. Fast, engaging, and a great insight into the daemonic side of Warhammer 40K. Voice acting was perfect for this story, very captivating. I look forward to a sequel, hopefully!

do you like heresy? because it runs rampant in this novel.

Loyalist space Marines racing heretic space Marines to get their hands on a whole bunch of heresy... what's not to love ? think of Indiana Jones The last crusade but in the Warhammer universe.

Good example of an obscure chapter

I enjoyed the novel. While not the best one I’ve ever read, I’m very happy with it. It deserves 5 stars and I’d like to see MacNiven do some more. Also the narrator was good and provided good examples and didn’t do any weird stuff.

The characters

I loved how this book delved into the characters and detailed the small things about each space marine in the squads. The beginning of the end tended to drag on and could be skipped but other than that it was a great book.

don't listen to this with both earbuds in.

you can hear the readers breath intake at the end of every sentence. it's fine. but it's just distracting to me personally I figured they'd edit it out because I've not had that issue with any of the other 40k books I've listened to.

A great insight into a more obscure chapter!

A lot of lore added to the secretive Exorcists. I enjoyed the narrator most when he voiced any of the evil characters. It was difficult to tell apart the space marines and I would lose track of where I was.
