Jacob Knight wakes up to a bloodbath at the mall, with him at the epicenter. He is quickly arrested and forced to fight on a secret squad of metahumans who are given a choice between forced military service or prison.

Prologue

I heard her scream again, yelling as loud as she could muster, but it was lost in the fire this time, unable to penetrate the heat. I think she ordered him to stop. We both ignored her anyway, just staring at each other through the white energy pouring out of his body. It was like a powerful storm of pure thermal plasma raging out of him, like shaking hands with the center of a super nova.

He wasn’t angry. If anything, he was a little surprised, but there was something else there too.

Respect.

He was a monster who could survive an ungodly amount of heat, who could live in the flames. And I was equally a monster, who could stand in the flames with him. Something no one else could do. Something he could respect.

To put it simply: decent story, interesting world, excellent cast of voice actors. As for the book itself, a few shortcomings that keep myself from recommending this book. Such as: unbelievably fast pacing, cringe-worthy moments and a few generic, bland and uninspired characters. Otherwise, an enjoyable listen for myself.

the neg to some might be the sound fx and how fast the mc fell in love with trin but I personally enjoyed the sfx. As for the love story bit, I get it. teenagers especially mentally screwed up ones fall in and out of love on a shift of the breeze so the love story bit isn't unbelievable to me.

Honestly I wasn't expecting to like this book and thought it would be a quick return, pleasantly surprised i liked it and cant wait for Omega Zero to get released and I'll probably buy the other books buy this guy just because I liked this one so much.

I actually like this author's story better then some of my favorite series because it's not riddled with sex or crap like that. It handles it tastefully, not ignoring the subject but handling it realistically like normal people would in a conversation, and not making it like the first few Alpha World books or the Wild Wastes series.

The characters are believable and I actually feel like the conversations could be real with the exception of how fast the mc accepts his place in his new life style at first. At the same time I'm very happy it didn't dwell on that overly much like other series like to do, where you'll be on book four or eight and the mc will have an existential crisis because of the new world or lifestyle. At first I didn't get it but after you get to know the mc and his way of thinking it's more believable.






TL;DR: realistic characters, treats sex like real people would with no detail, over all good book.

I thought it started out with many holes and a week MC. Idid think the story was great and some holes filled later in the book. The narration was great and it would make a superb movie. My tastes are more into the non thinking relaxing as a story is told. so Dont let my holes coment sway you it was a great story. I am looking forward to the next...

I love that Soundbooth theater does cast performances for audiobooks. I feel like it really sets their work apart. The concept of the book was really cool. It was cringe-worthy at parts with teenage romance. But it was kind of like a car wreck that you can’t help but look at. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

Omega Squad was my first book by Kurtis Eckstein and overall, it was well done. There were some things here and there that I didn't care for, but the storyline is very interesting to me and I'm intrigued enough to check out more in the series. If you're a fan of stories along the lines of the Suicide Squad from comics or movies, you'll probably like this one as well.

I enjoyed the characters for the most part. Their individual powers are interesting and don't feel like just another re-hash of other super-powered characters we always see. I felt like Kurtis did a great job of picking some powers that felt fresh and different. Jacob's power is very interesting and Trinity makes a great love interest for him. I do have to warn you that this book doesn't end cleanly. It definitely leads into book 2, so if you hate cliffhanger stories, you'll want to re-think this one. If that kind of thing doesn't bother you, I'd definitely recommend you try this one out.

The story, overall, is really interesting. There's definitely some moments where you have to suspend belief a little, though. The main character killing a bunch of people and being distraught one minute, only to be enthralled by Trinity the next minute, is a little hard to swallow, but some of that is explained later in the story. There are definitely times where the main character seems to be one way and then changes jarringly into a different person at other times. At one point in the story, you feel like he wouldn't hurt any innocent person and at other times, it seems like he'd be down for anything (and I'm not talking about the obvious points when he's in his power's control). As I said, I really enjoyed the story, but just know you may have to suspend believe at some things in the story. Of course, if you're reading a book like this, I would think you'd expect to have to bend reality a little.

The narration, done by Soundbooth Theater, was well done. some of the sound effects come out of no-where and can catch you off-guard, but I actually enjoyed them. I really like audiobooks with extra sounds, as it helps to break up the monotony of some audiobooks. I will be looking for more books by Soundbooth Theater to check out, since I enjoyed this performance so much.

The story and overall performance were good but the sound effects were really bad. The music that started playing was to loud sometimes so it was hard to hear what he was saying. And most of the soundeffects didn´t add anything to the performance of the audiobook most of it was just annoying and didn´t fit that good to the situations and the music overall was a bad choise of music imo. This did not ruin the audiobook tought since the narrators did a pretty good job and I will get the next book in the series.
