If only things were that easy....

Grim must travel away from his new home on a quest to strengthen his village and discover that even greater monsters can be found in the more civilized parts of this world. On his journey he will gain both allies and enemies as well as gain a painful understanding of the deal he took in order to live his new life.

Will Grim survive? Will he be able overcome the powerful foes amassing before him? And who is Zordell exactly? Why is he imprisoned?

Solid good book

It's a solid good book. Narration is good. Story is very good. It's good to hear a story about an actual good guy who is willing to do what it takes.

Good story, voice acting could have been better

Story was good but the voice actor is a bit over the top. And some of the voices are just plain bad.

He has done it again!

Holy crap! This is the second book in the series so far, and it blew the first one out of the water! I loved seeing various characters become even more developed and intricate. The story line will grab you by the throat and not let go! Without giving anything away, some of the plot twists and the MC's skill evolution is just amazing! I really hope he continues with this story line. I didn't just listen to "a book", I was transported to another world and don't want to return! Could not recommend this book enough! I would give it more then 5 stars if I could. Read it, you won't be disappointed!

It’s okay but...

Halfway through and this is getting closer and closer to turning into a harem book. If that happens, I’m returning both Books I & II. I understand harem books are for some people, but it’s not for me. Why anybody would want to manage more than one partner at a time is beyond me. Relationships are hard enough, and all the drama, attention seeking behavior, pouting, etc. etc. etc. that comes from harem stories is just annoying and boring. The small scenarios of sex with multiple partners at the same time in typical harem books can’t be worth all the rest of the drama and manipulation by insecure members can it? I don’t think so anyways… I’ll update this when it’s concluded. If you’re listening Maxwell Farmer, don’t kill a decent LitRPG story that’s just starting to take root by turning it into a harem novel. Also, the protective, zealot, female bodyguard character is cringy every time she speaks, made worse by Armen Taylor’s narration due to his deep voice. Make her likable, dead, or get an additional female narrator to provide her “sultry/seductive” voice please… Nobody but the Gnome would find her attractive.

Narration-wise, just the same issue I always have with Armen Taylor. He has this weird thing he ALWAYS does when starting EVERY sentence. “IF…..I may ask?” “DO….you have time for it.” “He…didn’t know which way to go. HE…..knew there was only one choice.” It’s this constant pause between the first word of every sentence before finishing his statement. It’s like he’s constantly thinking about what he’s going to say as he says it. Frustrating. Also, the use of, “That….Was….Aesome…” Is tired and overused.

Hacky

1/2 the book is the author trying to show us in a very white knight way how much of a good guy the MC is. Most of it is cringe-worthy pandering way that does nothing for the story. The author sort of goes out of his way to add cliche situations for him to do so. And he also is treated like an idiot child(which he is sometimes) who would never go against anything a woman said. Cause you know, it makes him a good guy. And EVERY woman is super competent and either unbelievably nice or aggressive.
