Publisher's summary

For Libby Beckett, opening her charming yarn shop, and introducing customers to the joys of knitting and crochet, is the work she was meant to do. Until the yarn she loves is used for murder....

Libby has come home to Collinstown, Maryland, to live her dream and open her own yarn shop, aptly named Y.A.R.N., along the Chester River. To Libby, Y.A.R.N. stands for "You're Absolutely Ready Now". But the acronym changes whenever inspiration strikes, and customers add to the list of suggestions that fill the blackboard wall in a shop stuffed with color, fiber, and comfort.

Libby is thrilled when she lands famous Norwegian knitting celebrity Perle Langager for a series of events at Y.A.R.N. Libby's English bulldog, Hank, has been modeling one of Perle's doggie sweaters, and customers just can't wait to see Perle in action. The mayor of Collinstown even decrees a Collinstown Yarn Day to celebrate. But once Perle arrives in town, she seems distracted and on edge. And when she's found strangled with a skein of red yarn, Libby knows she has to solve a knotty mystery before her new life unravels.

* This audio edition includes a downloadable PDF of a knitting pattern for the Norwegian inspired dog sweater mentioned in the book.

I was overly critical at first

I thought I seen some similarities as another yarn series but then I started to see the novel for what it was and I really enjoyed it!!! I so enjoyed listening and will get the other ones too!!!

Entertaining, fun and involving read

As a knitter/crocheter I truly enjoyed this story. Thoughts of having my own yarn shop made this especially dear to my heart. The story was well written and the performance wonderful. I look forward to future stories from Allie Pleiter.

Will continue this series!

This book was the first I read from this author and it won’t be the last! I love the characters and storyline. The shop sounds picturesque, and I would love to help them yarn bomb something!

Charming author

The talk by the author was charming. She should have narrated the book. Although the protagonist was held to be admirable, she complained and whined a bit too much. On a trivial note, just can't visualize yarn bombing as art.

Yarn at its best and worst

I enjoyed listening to On Skein of Death. The narrator is good.
Yarn is the name of the store, the source of many projects and a tool of death in this tale.
Libby is an interesting main character.

Fun, and no brain cells lost

What a fun book! The story is interesting, the characters are likeable, and the writing is crisp. The author has a sense of humor, and it shows. I tend to shy away from cozies as they frequently disappoint, but this was wonderfully fun and well written. The narration was well done.

Delightful Book!

I loved sitting and knitting my project while listening to this entertaining book. Allie Pleiter is a very good writer and her narrator Brittany Presley has a lovey charming voice. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a charming knitting mystery. I can’t wait to listen to her next book, and of course knit!!!

GREAT NEW SERIES

YES, THERE ARE OTHER KNITTING MYSTERIES - COZIES- BUT THIS ONE HAS SOME UNIQUE TOUCHES, AT LEAST TO NON-KNITTER ME. I LOVED THE NORWEGIAN VS DANISH INFO, THE NEEDLE DESIGNS, AND LIBBY'S ENTHUSIASM FOR THE ART OF KNITTING. THE CHARACTERS ARE ENGAGING AND ENTERTAINING. THE STORY WAS WELL WRITTEN AND INTELLIGENT, AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 2.

Engaging & fun

I was immediately struck by the imagery in the first few paragraphs that made me feel like I was there with the main character. All of the characters evoked feelings in me, all distinct & all making me want to read more. The story is engaging and fun & I love the way knitting is included in a way that’s true to knitters without alienating non-knitters. I also know I’m caught up in a story when a female narrator makes me forget she’s a female when voicing men. I look forward to the next book!!

cozy mystery

there were lulls in the story where I had to force myself to pay attention in the beginning, but my love of yarn kept me moving along with it. very cozy with minimal brutality and sexuality with just enough love interest that I swept through it. it was pretty predictable, however, it was delightful!
