About this listen

Best-selling author Victoria Holt spins breath-taking tales glimmering with danger and romance. In this entrancing novel, set in late 1800s Europe, a beautiful English schoolgirl participates in an ancient celebration, only to discover she no longer knows the difference between truth and myth. As shadows lengthen, 17-year-old Helena Trant and her classmates must finish their picnic in the Black Forest. Tonight young men will be out to honor Loke, the god of mischief, with drinking and pranks - no woman will be safe. As Helena walks through the misty woods, she loses her friends, but her fear turns to joy when a broad-shouldered man on a horse rescues her. The bewitching time she spends dining and dancing with him seems a thrilling dream - until that fateful night alters her life forever - blurring the borders between reality and dreams. One of the world’s most popular authors, Victoria Holt skillfully weaves intrigue, suspense, and rapture into impetuous Helena’s exploits. Virginia Leishman’s spellbinding narration will leave you alternately holding your breath with anticipation or sighing with bliss.

Victoria Holt is a master at this genre. Her books are interesting suspenseful and easy reading. The narrator Davina Porter is wonderful. Would recommend to everyone.

Fantastic performance!

A wonderful, historical Victoria holt story. The narrator is superb! I came looking for a great story that would hold my interest and imagination without out sexual or language content that I am not in favor of. This was perfect.

Favorite Writer from teenage years

If you could sum up On the Night of the Seventh Moon in three words, what would they be?

I love Victoria Holt books and have read all that has been printed. I wished that more were on audio because I have truly enjoyed listening to them again. She is also know as Phillippa A Carr. I have not checked for any audio under this name as yet. I am unable to read comfortably so getting to listen has been a wonderful experience for me for I missed reading so very much. As far as what I loved best, I love all of her story lines equally.

Magical story!

This novel was my first Victoria Holt (one of Eleanor Hibbert’s pseudonyms) so I enjoyed the introduction into her style and storytelling. I previously discovered Mary Stewart, and I loved all of her books too! This story had several fairytale elements and more realistic parts as well. Very wonderful descriptions of the places and things in the story too. It’s not to be read for its realism to life - it’s definitely a fantasy romance in my opinion. I loved the parts in Oxford too, there were so many characters that were well developed in the story. Virginia Leishman was also a terrific narrator, her accents and voices were very good. I hope you enjoy!

I love story With mystery Bixby without all the descriptions of sex

This is what I consider a really classic wonderful style. You have romance. You have mystery and intriguing twists. It is the kind of book that you can't put down and you don't want to put down.

Lyrical gothic mystery with romance

I wish I read this beautiful story when I was a teenager, I am sure it would have been my all time favourite.

As an adult, even though the story is still lovely, somehow, it’s slightly naive and has a feel as to be better suited for YA readers.

Will try to find more books by Virginia Holt, she is remarkable storyteller, her style is far superior to modern romances....

Fantastic narration!

I’ve been reading Victoria Holt since I was a teenager. I’ve never been able to properly pronounce many of the German words. This narration was Absolutely the BEST! I love the story lines of Ms Holt and this production is Truly enjoyable!
