About this listen

England 1803: Lady Christina Beaumont, daughter to the Earl of Whickerton, is on a mission. A mission to protect her best friend from being forced into a marriage that would see her delicate heart broken and her sensibilities shocked. Deep in debt, Lord Hartmore agreed to marry his daughter to a scoundrel. A man who grew up far from London's high society.

With one glance, Christina can see that the only reason Mr. Sharpe intends to marry her friend is to gain entrance into London's high society...and she will raise hell before allowing that to happen. Unfortunately, Christina finds herself falling prey to another's plan before her own can fall into place.

Thorne Sharpe is a self-made man. A society match promises the necessary influence Thorne needs in order to make a difference, a difference for all those still struggling to survive each and every day. However, while the young lady he had his eye on appears to be kind and good-hearted-although somewhat fearful-Thorne finds his gaze linger upon her spirited friend instead, a siren with golden locks and eyes that shoot daggers at him at every occasion.

So, when opportunity presents itself, Thorne does not hesitate. He never has. And he won't start now.

He knows what he wants, and what he wants is...her.

Narrators can ruin a book!

I did not like this book at all. I believe I couldn’t get past the narrator, who sounded more suited to read horror stories…haunted. I had to adjust the volume several times to hear all conversations and changed the speed of the narration just to get it to a somewhat normal tempo. Because of this, I gritted my teeth and got to the end. The story is not good. I don’t see what anybody can say that’s positive. I honestly had to look back to see if I indeed bought this or hit some button by mistake. I guarantee this will grate on your nerves to the end!

Ugh, negative 1? BAD FMC

I tried to like it but Lady Christina was so prejudice against the MMC because he was a commoner. Her constant insults about him not being an aristocratic was too much for me. Even as she got to know this man her actions and thoughts were so childish so ridiculous it became unbearable to listen to her whining. I made it all the way to 3 hours to go then started skipping ahead in big jumps. I couldn't warm upto her at all. The story almost had substance but the way the author droned on and on repeating a dead, bloddy and pulverized horse was too grating to continue. I couldn't cheer for them a a couple because she was so a vile person. It felt in such stark contrast from her personality in the previous books. This Christina is exceptionally selfish & mean. Imagine a Regency Gina George withput the humor. <SNAP> 🤌 that'sit the book lacks humor! In this book she is in an perpetual state of aggitation. One of those women who likes to find fault in everything. She unnecessarily creates hostility in every situation. It's not good when you want the FMC to contract a disease and perish so he could remarry. In the end I HATED this book.

The writing level in the books are not bad but it is quite bad. The author has a very limited vocabulary. Her favorite word is either "However" or "Nevertheless", she repeats it constantly. I noticed this habit in previos book too but in those at least the story was engaging.

Final nail in this coffin is the narrator, who runs hot and cold. In this book she forced her words to be crisp which leads to a spitting type of annunciation. When this happens and she drops her voice it is hard to understand her words.

My recommendation save your credits & skip this one.
