Great Audiobook!

One way or another was the first Audiobook that I have ever listened to. Elaine Raco Chase writes amazing books as it is. Being able to listen to her story while cleaning my house or where I could not be reading a book was such an enjoyable time.
The character of Abby was amazing and I loved the fact that she played many cards. Just like any other story that Elaine has written, you fall in love with the characters and she makes you feel like you are living their life with them.

The only complaint that I had with the audiobook is sometimes during the dialogue I would become confused with who was speaking.

Great audiobook! Will buy more!

True Love

I enjoyed this story very much. It was sweet and endearing.
The many characters were strong and well done. I'd grown to love them all in such a short amount of time. The story itself was cute and I'd read it again.

However, I did not like the narration of the audiobook very much. I listen to tons of audiobooks a year, last year alone over 150, and I found this narrator to be bland and monotone. She would try to use inflections but they seemed at the wrong times. Most of the time, it came out in the same tone all the way through. There was not much of a difference in the voices of the different characters. While listening, I wished for the story to finish and also wished I had the ebook so I could finish it myself. It may just be me, and I do suggest you give it a try for yourself.

BUT, don't let this take you away from what's really important, which is the story. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves contemporary romance/ rom-com/chick-lit type books.

Great pairing of author and narrator

Here is an audio-book pairing of Elaine Raco Chase’s work with the voice of Janina Edwards providing the narration. And I have to say – this is another winner! Edwards’ voice is perfectly modulated, with variation in tone and tenor to illustrate the various character voices and points of view throughout the book. This smooth narration enhances the well-written story, and provides a great listening experience.

The story is clever, and it is interesting to remember the changes from the early computer days with punch cards, and ATM’s as a relative new innovation. Aside from those little pieces of technology that date the piece to an era that is not entirely 21st century, humans haven’t changed that much and the author’s character development and portrayal of their emotions reinforces that fact.

Written with a deft hand and a clear ear for conversational style and nuanced emotional impact from well-defined facial impressions and word choice, the characters of Nick and Abby are as real as any two people you may meet in the grocery store. In addition, their romance is sensual and feels very natural, with all of the misunderstandings that naturally appear between two people who often act as if they are reacting to their past rather than their present. The heat level in this book comes not from erotically detailed scenes, but is more depicted in sensual phrasing that is not explicit, and provides the reader with an “oh that is so romantic” sort of momentary warmth.

This is an audio book that will keep a smile on your face, with an ease and familiarity with the characters and their families that feels like coming home.

I received a copy of the audiobook from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Sweet, classic romance with heat

This is a contemporary classic, meaning it was originally written in the '80's. Much of the story revolves around a credit card company (run by Nick) and Abby's hatred of them. It was fun to get that little peek into the past. I mean, a computer than runs on punch cards? A novelist who uses a typewriter? My children will never know a world without home computers and credit cards, so I enjoyed that aspect of the story.

I liked the characters Nick and Abby. They were so cute and connected right away, but you know that when someone is keeping secrets, it is going to come back and bite them. So I was holding my breath, waiting for that to happen. I just loved the story. There was plenty of heat, without being graphic. Lots of build-up.

I received an audio copy for review. It was enjoyable to listen to. The narrator, Janina, did an excellent job. She has a great voice and just became all of the characters. You know the narration is done well when it sort of fades into the background and all you hear is the story.
