About this listen

Too long to be a short story, too short to be a novel - welcome to the surprisingly potent world of the novelette. The award-winning magazine Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show has been an online haven for this powerful form of storytelling since 2005. Now its editors have selected their all-time favorite science fiction novelettes from the magazine's eight-year history and reprinted them together in one big book of listening pleasure. Anything that is remotely possible - futures near and far, artificial intelligence and alien encounters, alternate timelines and alternate theories about creating universes, planet-eating black holes and lunar racetracks - is all here under the big tent of Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show.

This anthology features stories by such award-winning authors as Orson Scott Card, Wayne Wightman, Aliette de Bodard, Eric James Stone, Mary Robinette Kowal, Stephen Kotowych, Jackie Gamber, Greg Siewert, Jamie Todd Rubin, Brad R. Torgersen, and Marina J. Lostetter, plus an all-new essay by Orson Scott Card about writing the character of Ender.

Little science fiction, mostly interpersonal talk.

Very little science fiction. A great deal of frequently argumentative interpersonal talk not advancing a science fiction plot. Very disappointing.

Mixed bag

Loved some, liked some and felt one was a story that could have happened anywhere, anytime with speculative elements tossed in as after thought. Loved OSC Ender extras. Such broad range, I'd recommend it. Something for everyone.

Guess I'm not a novelette fan.

i thought the stories were well read/performed but I didn't like the way most of them ended. They spend a lot of time building the characters and story, then the ending is short with little detail leaving you hanging. I guess they leave it up to your own imagination but that is not what I want. Think I will stick to novels in the future. If novelettes are your thing I think will probably like this collection.

Good, not Great

The stories were good and for the price worth the money. But I expected more.

Needs the author's notes at the end

not sure why they're not included here. I always enjoyed them and the collection is lesser because of it.

Amazing collection!

Collections are usually some anchors and a bunch of fillers. I enjoyed every one in this collection.

Entertaining

I found each story to be entertaining and well read by the story tellers and their presentation.

Light and great

A bunch of great short stories, although some of them were repeated from the other volume. The blackstone audio narrators are awesome as always. I listened to the entire audio series of ender's game, twice, including the short stories and live reading, and it's always such a good listen. Currently on my mission to finish all of Orson's audio books and I've loved everything I read so far!
