About this listen

The story of how I, Julian Carter, and my precious two-year old son, Stephen, left Atlanta Georgia and found ourselves on a white sailboat, tossed about like a cork on a raging sea off of Australia's northern tip in 1963, is harrowing.

But it pales in comparison to what happened deep in the jungle where I was taken as a slave by a savage tribe unknown to the world. Some places dwell in darkness so deep that even God seems to stay away.

There, my mind was torn in two by the gods of the earth. There, one life ended so another could begin. Some will say I was a fool for making the choices I made. But they would have done the same. They, too, would have embraced death if they knew what I knew, and saw through my eyes.

Deeper teaching as only this author can reveal.

Supernatural truths are so plainly illustrated in this story. Readers will understand what strength in Christ truly means and what is truly enduring.

The last few times I have read a Ted Dekker book I get about halfway through and doubt. But every time I am pit at ease. This is another great Dekker book.

Another amazing book by Ted Dekker

Ted Dekker is fast becoming my favorite author. His books are powerful, rich allegories which tackle really difficult theological subjects in a head on, dynamic way.

Beautiful story

Loved the story, the characters and the wonderful weaving of the Way of Love in to the story.

Excellent book

It took me a little bit to get into this book because I thought that it was just going to be a book about a woman held prisoner by a tribe. I'm so glad that I continued to listen because it was so much more than I thought it would be. Listen and you'll see!

I read some, I listen some

If you could sum up Outlaw in three words, what would they be?

Spiritually uplifting honest

What did you like best about this story?

The Spiritual lessons toward the end of the book.

Have you listened to any of Nicola Barber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no, but the hard part for me was Julia was a young lady from Georgia with a British accent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A Savior in a savage land.

Any additional comments?

I really love Ted Dekker and I enjoyed this book for the most part. It was a simple book well written. But, I felt there were a few holes in the book. We begin with a wonderful love story of self sacrifice and survival, and are taken to an intense slow build up to what seems like a very exciting climax. Then we are veered off to the right 18 years later. It felt like there was a whole section missing and some of my favorite characters were never heard from again or just mentioned briefly. I feel like I was left swaying in the middle a bit. I can honestly say I predicted the ending it kind of had the same feel that Green had for me. I don't know what I was expecting because I loved the spiritual context and the writing but it all felt a little rushed, what was a 10 hour audio book read slowly and deliberately by Nicole Barber would have been about an three hour read for myself . I am a huge audio book listener and I normally buy the hard back also, so I can take it with me wherever I might go until I'm finished. Ms.Barber is a fine reader but I just didn't like her style on this book- A Georgia southern belle with an English accent- just didn't work for me. In saying all of this I love the way Ted Dekker thinks this is why I love his writing, but this is just my two cents worth on Outlaw.

Awesome story

This book is an awesome story about forgiveness. The characters come to life and move you emotional. Like a Ted Decker's book they make you think about your relationship with God. I was challenged to remember this body is only my costume and I must live for my true purpose.
