Looking at myself in a mirror
It's me, I'll admit it. I'm the one who has caused strain in previous romantic and family relationships because of my avoidant styles. This book absolutely nailed the experience of someone with that tendency. I felt like I was looking at a mirror sometimes and being forced to recognize some issues that I've never examined as fully before. Beginning to understand the pre-cursors of my avoidant behavior, instead of just noticing once they've already begun and perhaps caused issues in my relationships, is going to be such a game changer moving forward and I am excited to put what I've learned in this book into action.

I know my story is not uncommon these days but it is still hard to trust after being burned in the worst possible way. The loss of my son had caused me to avoid attachment as I could not shake the feeling of betrayal and loss. I have been seeing a therapist but wanted to do more to help myself and found this audiobook with attached workbook. I found this book to be extremely helpful. The workbook has been instrumental in my improvements on letting others in. I am so grateful for this book.
