Generationen, født ind i et fattigt samfund i skyggen af 2. Verdenskrig og atombomben, satte sig nye mål, og verden ændrede sig hurtigt. Kolonier blev selvstændige stater, velfærd kom på dagsordenen, flere fik en uddannelse, og kvinder myldrede ud på arbejdsmarkedet og krævede ligestilling.
"På sporet af årgang 1946" er en huskebog med pejlemærker for hvert årti, med fortællinger af kendte og ukendte danskere fra Hilda Heick og Mogens Lykketoft til Gretelise Holm og Jens Smærup Sørensen. Jytte Hilden (f. 1942) var medlem af Folketinget for Socialdemokratiet 1979-1998 og kultur- og senere forskningsminister i Poul Nyrup Rasmussens første regeringsperiode. Efter den politiske karriere blev lagt på hylden har hun blandt andet arbejdet i Erhvervsfremmestyrelsen, Danmarks Radio og som kulturchef ved Det Kgl. Bibliotek. Hun har skrevet flere bøger om politik, kvinder og kultur. Inge Dalsgaard (f. 1944) er uddannet cand.mag. i dansk og engelsk fra Københavns Universitet og har gennem en lang karriere undervist i gymnasiet og HF.
