Story
When facing contentious issues such as screen time, food choices, and bedtime, children often act out or shut down, responding with reactivity instead of receptivity. This is what New York Times best-selling authors Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson call a No Brain response. But our kids can be taught to approach life with openness and curiosity. When kids work from a Yes Brain, they’re more willing to take chances and explore. They’re more curious and imaginative. They’re better at relationships and handling adversity.

Feelings are not meant to be pushed down or dismissed. Here’s how to make sure your kids know what to do with theirs: If you’re like most parents, one of your primary concerns about your child, aside from their health and safety, is how you can prepare them for adulthood. Qualities associated with emotional intelligence, are a greater predictor of future success than having a high IQ and are very often overlooked. Fortunately, emotional intelligence is something that can be taught and developed, and the ideal time to do it is while your kids are still young.

Working on my patience with my kiddos daily
I've been working on managing my temper with my kids for a while, and this audiobook added some great tools to my routine. It reinforced strategies that are actually realistic when I'm close to losing my patience. The narrator's style felt supportive not preachy, which made it easier to stick with. I’m still working through everything but I'm definitely calmer more often already. Worth adding to your toolkit if patience is an ongoing struggle for you too.

Not Only For Parents
I am not a parent myself but am instead a babysitter. The kids were... just... terrible. I was able to implement many of the things talked about in this book in order to manage them when I babysit. It didn't fix everything but I've also only just started so I'm sure things will keep getting better. It is no longer torture to babysit these kids! I am so thankful that I was able to learn from this book. My life is now substantially better. Thank you!

Love it
This is a wonderful audiobook speaking about the importance of being patient. I personally don’t have children, but I got this book to help me be more patient with my cousin’s and friend’s children. It is important to remember practicing mindfulness and remember children are learning as they go. Also, thinking back to when I was a child and doing the opposite of what the adults were doing around me at the time. This is a great book and I recommend it.

Managing Emotions
Parenting can be overwhelming, and I’ve definitely had my share of moments where frustration gets the best of me. That’s why I really appreciated this audiobook’s straightforward and realistic approach to handling parenting challenges. The advice is practical, and the techniques for staying calm actually work in real-life situations. I found myself using some of the strategies and there were times I had to step away, take a deep breath, and then come back feeling more patient and in control. This book felt like a supportive guide, helping me manage my emotions so I could teach my kids in a way that wasn’t just reacting out of frustration. It’s a valuable resource for any parent who wants to handle difficult situations with more confidence and less stress.

Honest Support for Real-Life Parenting Moments
As patient as I try to be, there are definitely moments when I feel completely at a loss—frustrated, overwhelmed, and unsure how to connect with my child in a way that actually works. This book really spoke to those moments.
It doesn’t pretend parenting is easy or that we always have to be perfect. Instead, it gives practical tools for managing anger and staying calm without feeling like you're failing. I appreciated the real-life examples and the gentle tone that made me feel less alone and more capable.
If you’re looking for guidance that feels relatable and actually helps in the heat of the moment, this book is a solid choice. It reminded me that staying calm is a skill I can build—and that connection matters more than control.
