Sarah Ban Breathnach
About this listen
"When money is plentiful, this is a man's world. When money is scarce, it is a woman's world." Unearthed in a 1932 issue of Ladies Home Journal, this quote is the call to arms that begins Peace and Plenty, Sarah Ban Breathnach's answer to the world's - and her own personal -financial crisis. As only Ban Breathnach can, she culls together this compendium of advice, deeply personal anecdotes, and excerpts from magazines, books, and newspapers - particularly those of the Great Depression - to inspire listeners who are mired in today's financial difficulties.
Focusing on her own personal path, Sarah Ban Breathnach will relate never-before revealed details about how she fell from the financial top to the bottom. Readers will immediately see how deeply she understands the plight of those trying to maintain a happy and comfortable home while at the same time not even knowing if they will be able to make the mortgage to keep that home.
Sarah has proven to be the voice of comfort for years to women who are spiritually bankrupt, and now she will reach out to those who are financially strapped, showing them how to pull themselves out of their psychic and fiscal crises while providing deep comfort and reassurance throughout.

Story
Almost any parent you asked would tell you that they want their children to be happy, successful adults. But many of us forget (or never knew to begin with) that lasting personal joy is not necessarily found the way the world says it is - through reaching a certain socioeconomic status, having a certain job, buying a certain house, or having a certain amount in one's bank account. In fact, says Kristen Welch, author of Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World, personal satisfaction comes not from grabbing onto things but from holding them with an open hand and, very often, giving them away.

Story
In 2014, Elizabeth and Nate Thames were conventional 9-5 young urban professionals. But the couple had a dream to become modern-day homesteaders in rural Vermont. Determined to retire as early as possible in order to start living each day - as opposed to wishing time away working for the weekends - they enacted a plan to save an enormous amount of money: well over 70 percent of their joint take-home pay. Dubbing themselves the Frugalwoods, Elizabeth began documenting their unconventional frugality and the resulting wholesale lifestyle transformation on their eponymous blog.

Story
This book is a call to action based on one simple concept - that personal freedom is a choice. Beth Kempton went from being a life-loving, risk-taking adventurer to a grown-up, settled down mother-wife-business owner before realizing the life she had built was suffocating her. She set out to find her personal freedom and along the way discovered that many others were also feeling hemmed in, suffering from anxiety, depression, and physical pain, exhausted, disconnected, and sad.

Amazing!
Sarah Ban Breathnach has done it again! Just when I thought no book could beat her Simple Abundance, here is another beautiful book about finding the spiritual in the everyday; and building a rich relationship with, life, money, yourself and the Divine. Brava Sarah!

Disappointed - Way Too Long!
I feel terrible writing a negative review especially because I've been such a fan of Sarah's previous work. I was so excited about this book - which I had didn't even know about until catching an old Oprah interview promoting it - but since I am going through a similar story where I had made a lot of money, lost it & am now at 55 re-building again. I had hoped this would be an inspirational book about how Sarah build her fortune back (or at least a lot of it) and I was all in!
I noticed it was 10 hours - I'm normally a fan of longer books IF the story can hold up for 10 hours. However this is just LONG - it's 102 chapters that all boils down to how to find peace & happiness being poor. It goes off topic often, every other chapter is a history lesson about how something was done 50 years ago. It feels all over the place with very little mentioned about her own story.
Again - apologies but I could only get through the first 52 chapters and then just can't take anymore - I'll be returning it.
