About this listen

Following Brilliance Audio’s recent Grammy-nominated musical-audiobook for children, The Shoebird, starring the inimitable Jim Dale, another popular children’s title is being released just in time for the holidays: Peter and the Wolf. This beloved fairy tale, with music by Sergei Prokofiev, tells of how the courageous Peter and his animal friends - the bird, the duck, and the cat - set out to capture a ravenous wolf.

Generations of children have been charmed by this enchanting work, and Brilliance Audio is proud to introduce its own version with multi-Grammy Award-winner Jim Dale as narrator. To delight the millions of Jim’s fans, his reading of Peter and the Wolf will include unforgettable vocal characterizations of the various animals, young Peter, and Peter’s grumpy old grandfather. The music of Peter and the Wolf, including some of the best-known classical melodies, is superbly performed by the award-winning Seattle Symphony, led by music director Gerard Schwarz. Children and their parents will enjoy listening to this unique musical story as every character is portrayed by a different instrument from the orchestra and the story is woven together by the lively narration by Jim Dale. It’s a perfect holiday gift and a must-have for all Jim dale fans!

Symphony and Audiobook!

Jim Dale narrates a classic children's book that pairs symphony with narrative. It's a great learning piece to teach children how music can speak!

A family favorite!!! Love it!

This is our family favorite introduction to classical music! Even after the many, many times we've listened, it still engages everyone's attention!

Beloved children's classic

I loved this story when I was a kid listening to this on my record player. The story was so real to me when told to the orchestra playing accompaniment. I loved it so much that I just had to have it my library to share with my grandson. It is so great to be able to share the same experience with him. Definitely a must have for your listening library if you have little ones. "Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry"

Perfect bedtime story

I had the album in the 60's and this brings me right back there. I play it for my grandsons at bedtime. The 5-year old hasn't made it to the end but requests it every week. I love the narration (and miss Pushing Daisies), but the duck and bird are... Odd. Maybe just different from my memory. The music, though, is perfection.

Wonderful!

This is a classic story that was done very well. The music wasn't cut short as in other recordings I've listened to, and Jim Dale can do no wrong.

Excellent Perfomance

Leonard Bernstein's performance is still my favorite, however, Jim Dale's performance is as excellent. Best for children from 1 month old to 101 years old.
