About this listen

When Miss Seeton walks out after a performance of Carmen and witnesses a real-life stabbing, all she can recall is a shadowy figure. But how could she have guessed that her latest artistic endeavor is a picture-perfect portrait of the killer? Her sketch puts her in a perilous position, for back at her recently inherited cottage in Plummergen village, she's fated to be a sitting duck...for murder most foul!

Meet Miss Emily D. Seeton: retired art teacher Miss Seeton steps in where Scotland Yard stumbles. Armed with only her sketch pad and umbrella, she is every inch an eccentric English spinster and the most lovable and unlikely master of detection.

Love this classic, old-style cozy mystery of the battling brolly

Miss Seeton, an excellent cozy mystery series. Why not record more of the many books remaining in this series? The quality of this recording is not ideal, very low volume

Great Book!

This is a great book; this is the first book in the Miss Seeton Mystery series written by Heron Carvic and narrated by Phyllida Nash. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. The narrator did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.

Armed with an umbrella

Any additional comments?

I selected this audiobook due to Phyllida Nash's narration.- perfect.

The story originally started out with a very 'golden era' mystery feel to it. Miss Seeton is not golden era, she's an elderly, ladylike, spinster in a more modern time who has psychic drawing, as in artistic, powers, practices yoga, and has an umbrella as her lucky talisman.

Carvic repeatedly refers to "Alice in Wonderland" throughout the book - I eventually made the connection - which explains why the book has a slightly offbeat, Madhatter, tone to it. The ending has that same offbeat feel, it doesn't resolve the question, "What happened to the body in the cupboard?".

Extra content others may like to know about before handing to your teen: Carvic has his villain in the book ruthlessly ending someone's life (I wasn't prepared for it, the focus was on Miss Seeton's plight, the author just tossed it down the 'rabbit hole'). The story centres around drugs, their pushers and victims.

Spinster arts teacher vs. hit man.

Loved it. It has been on my wish list for Audible to produce for a decade. The second book is not as good, but three through five are excellent. The books that follow are written by two different authors. Heron Carvic wrote the first five. Hopefully Audible will produce Odds On Miss. Seeton. Please!!!

I love Miss Seeton!

I have been a Miss Seeton fan for many years. The books are charming and funny. I was so pleased to see them appearing on Audible! The reader does a good job with the voices, and you can hear in her tone that she "gets it."

Cozy/Vintage British mtstery fans will like this book.

Oldie but goodie!

Miss Seeton is engaging character well drawn by the author. She and the entire village are brought to vivid life by the narrator. I read the entire series years ago and am loving listening to them.

Entertaining yet still a gritty edge

Good deal of dry and also broad humor while characters are still faced with a good deal of real peril! Really enjoyable and well drawn characters. The scenes with the Sergeant! Too funny! Miss Seeton is part Miss Marple part Mary Poppins part the indomitable practical aunt who can be depending on to understand. She also does yoga and is eminently sensible. The psychic bit is subtle--no wind chimes and incense but more something that comes out when she draws someone. I'm not a fan of broadly supernatural books with ghosts etc. Miss Seeton's gift is very believeable. Looking forward to the next one!
