Publisher's summary

A mutating virus.

A perilous journey.

A dark secret that threatens to shatter an already tenuous bond.

After escaping one of FEMA's civilian labor camps, Teddy Sanders and Ein Becker travel across a hostile, fractured, post-pandemic United States in search of sanctuary.

In the wake of a flu pandemic that has wiped out 90 percent of the population and the ensuing failure of the government's quarantine centers due to both asymptomatic carriers and a rapidly mutating virus, the United States has become a vast wasteland in which rebel factions and the remnants of the federal government fight over what remains of the country. The Federal Emergency Management Agency's fortified cities, called safe zones, promise safety and purpose to any healthy survivors who are willing to forgo personal liberty in exchange for peace. Outside of the walls of these safe zones, anarchy reigns as militias and independent settlements struggle daily in a desperate search for supplies.

Stuck in a state that neither of them knows anything about, Teddy Sanders and his unwitting travel companion, Ein Becker, set out to find a place to call home. Together, they embark on a journey that takes them across the country and find themselves tested in ways they never expected, as they contend with both hostile survivors and a military that continues to pursue them at any cost.

Matters become even more complicated when Teddy realizes that Ein harbors some dark secrets of his own.

As the government closes in on them and hidden truths are brought to light, will the two men be able to come together in order to achieve their goal, or will everything unravel once and for all?

Good listen

This was a good post apocalyptic story with the twists of what do you do ethically in a world with no control. Story would be 3.5 for me if I could use that rating- a couple of plot points did not fit well in my opinion but there were sone great twists particularly at the end

Fantastic!

This is an amazing series! It’s very entertaining and engaging. The narrator is very good and easy to listen to. I definitely would recommend this series to anyone who loves post apocalyptic fiction. I’ve listened to all three books in this series including this one and they all were great listens!

Last in Series

Enjoyed this series with good narrations and no zombies. It is about a virus spreading and killing people. I enjoying the characters especially Teddy Sanders, who escaped prison, survived the virus and get tortured by people you expect to help survivors. There are many twist and turns as well as different characters. Teddy is not a bad person and does what he can to stop the spread especially with Ian and goes back where he thinks he belongs. Sad ending

Really Good

This was not the usual post apocalyptic story.

This was very refreshing and some of it seemed like things I would do.

James Romick did a great job with the narration.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.

Teddy comes home!

Teddy eventually locates and rescues his friend Ein when the opportunity for a breakout from the work camp is made clear. From that point, we follow Teddy and Ein as they cross the countryside looking for safety, but there is little safety to be found. Words of warning regarding Ein from the head scientist at the work camp resonate in Teddy’s head. Is it possible that Ein could be a carrier of the virus? Teddy doesn’t believe it but the warning returns again and again. Despair and hardship have followed Teddy most of his life. It appears nothing has changed. After everything Teddy had been through, all the people, all the deaths, Teddy has come full circle. “Sometimes the old con blinders get a little too comfortable, don’t they?” Teddy was home.
