Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Helpful intro to speaking and understanding sehr basic Deutch

The narrator might be extremely boring and the repetition might be a little annoying, but I was able to speak and understand a fair amount of German after listening to this

Amazing program but no written material included

What did you love best about German Phase 1, Unit 11-15?

I have taken 12 units of German and lived in Germany for three years and this is one of the best methods of learning German I have experienced. This is an amazing way to learn a language.

Any additional comments?

My only concern is that starting in lesson 15, and forward, you are instructed to read the written material that comes with the program. However, Audible does not include the material and there is no wispersync available.

Yes it works. And how !!

What made the experience of listening to German Phase 1, Unit 11-15 the most enjoyable?

I have drilled using this course for about a year. I am moving to Germany for an 18 mos. volunteer program beginning January 2015. This program has prepared me for that move.

What did you like best about this story?

What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Any additional comments?

Some have noted that the "printed material is not included." Well, it is !! it is on a downloadable PDF. BUT when you get the PDF you may not know you have what you need. If you are on a Mac it is one of those rare PDFs that MUST be opened with Adobe Reader, first. After that you can extract the actual booklet you need and it will open normally with Preview or on portable IOS devices.

Structured and Effective

This is a solid course. It is structured and it pushes you. The vocabulary building in context is very effective. I like that it is confidence building. I started Pimsleur after I completed Paul Noble‘s first course, which I absolutely loved, but his second course won’t be available for two more months. So I am going with Pimsleur until then. My main complaint with Pimsleur is that you only get 2 1/12 hours for a full credit, so it is VERY expensive - 6 X times other audible books. Pimsleur needs to sort this out.

It works!

What made the experience of listening to German Phase 1, Unit 11-15 the most enjoyable?

It really works. It is amazing, but true. I follow the instructions and I remember the words and expressions. I'm through phase 1, and although it's pricey (1 credit for 5 lessons) I plan to continue because i see the results. Even my 10 y.o. wants to learn. I listen in the car, but later at home I do some additional exercises or listen to the German broadcasts. I have learned (apart from English) Russian and French at school, but this method is by far more effective.

Guten Tag

What did you love best about German Phase 1, Unit 11-15?

It is a relaxing time, I just focus on learning German for 30 min. I make tea and fold origami cranes or crochet while listening.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

How to pick up chicks in Germany.

Any additional comments?

I would like to hear more words for things to drink, such as water, tea, coffee, etc.

I Love the deliverance!

I Love these lessons! It’s wonderful how they teach you new words and phrases with a small explanation, all while incorporating parts that you’ve already learned. The various ways you can say the new content also helps cement the language.
I notice there’s a reading part to these lessons but I don’t know how to access the booklet. Nonetheless, it’s not a deal breaker seeing as those are just a couple extra words that I already know. The audio is still excellent with, or without it.

For the serious learner

Where does German Level 1 Lessons 11-15 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've used Innovative Language Learning all the way through. I've used the Sarah Retter books. I've gone through all levels of Duolingo and kept my lingots or whatever those are called full. I've use Fun Easy Learn. I listen to German music all day. I subscribe to several German youtube channels. This system and Paul Noble's are the best for forcing me to form sentences of my own, which is such a useful skill. And of course, I'm sure this system has so much more to offer. Right now I'm on lessons 11-15. It's very effective on the road. Just review the reading when you get home.

Any additional comments?

Keep at it.

Effective

Would you listen to German Phase 1, Unit 11-15 again? Why?

Yes, I plan to order unit 2 and 3. This is a good way to learn conversational German. I would like there to be more explanation as to the way sentences are supposed to be structured. Although there are many opportunities to repeat and answer after the instructor, I'm still unclear about how to form a sentence on my own. I'm only on lesson 11, so maybe it will come later.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like that conversations are held between a man and s woman so I can easily differentiate between questions and replies.

Any additional comments?

I read several comments about the missing practice reading material. If you go to audible's full site there is a link to download it.
