About this listen

For more than 20 years, Lemony Snicket has led millions of young listeners and readers through a mysterious world of bewildering questions and unfortunate events. With this latest book - a love letter to audiences young and old about the vagaries of real life - longtime fans and new listeners alike will experience Snicket’s distinctive voice in a new way.

This true story - as true as Lemony Snicket himself - begins with a puzzling note under his door: You had poison for breakfast. Following a winding trail of clues to solve the mystery of his own demise, Snicket takes us on a thought-provoking tour of his predilections: the proper way to prepare an egg, a perplexing idea called “tzimtzum”, the sublime pleasure of swimming in open water, and much else.

Poison for Breakfast is a classic-in-the-making that - in the great tradition of modern fables like The Little Prince and The Phantom Tollbooth - will delight listeners of all ages.

Poison for breakfast?

Patrick Warburton is a phenomenal narrator and it was the reason I picked up this audiobook! The story by itself isn't as charming as Lemony's previous work.

Oh the voice

I purchased this book based on the reviews around the performance and I wasn’t disappointed. Patrick’s voice is like silk. The story is also interesting and worth pondering…. Enjoyed this book.

ADHD philosophy in the best way

I listened to it twice in one day and also told like 3 people to read it as I was still finishing it. It had me laughing, smiling, snickering, nodding in agreement, being introspective, everything. I was sending different quotes to different people as they became relevant. (One is an ignored philosopher, one has discussed that everything we know about Indians is wrong, and yet another claims to hate eggs.)
Patrick is the perfect, dry but not bland voice of Snicket. 10/10 did recommend haha

Bewildering

This story is weird in a good way it’s philosophical as stated which i don’t like yet i like it. I was so confused while reading it alone but with the audio i was less confused. I recommend this book and suggest it to be read a couple of times and that it will be worth it.

Quite Bewildering but Amazing.

This book is amazing. It is the perfect audiobook to listen to while eating your own breakfast; whether that breakfast has tea with honey, a slice of toast with cheese, a single sliced pear or an egg perfectly prepared is completely up to you.

The narrator, Patrick Warburton, is in my opinion the perfect narrator to encompass Lemony Snicket's writing style. His deep voice gives such gravitas to the words and phrases Mr. Snicket uses.

This book has also made me think to myself of many Bewildering things and happenings in my life. Who knew a book called Poison for Breakfast would be so philosophical.

This makes me smile

There are books that you need to read two or three times just to make certain all puns, jokes and / or lessons were heard and learned. While listening to this book for the second time, I called my son, daughter and cousin and asked them to listen to the book so that I had someone to talk and laugh with about the book’s brilliance. Thank you, oh thank you, for putting a smile on my face.

Quirky.

This is a fun little read that makes you think deeply about what you know and how you view the world. Pay attention or you just might miss the point.
