About this listen
Accident, suicide, or murder?
On November 6, 2000, paramedics answered a call to find Kristin Rossum sobbing. Her husband, Greg de Villers, wasn't breathing, and she claimed he had overdosed on drugs after learning that she was leaving him. But family and friends weren't buying Kristin's story - particularly the idea that Greg would take his own life.
American Beauty
The daughter of a well-to-do California family, Rossum was a brainy blonde beauty whose talent for toxicology had won her a post at the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. But her sweet smile masked a dark side.
Toxic Passion
At the time of her husband's death, Rossum was engaged in an illicit affair with her married boss. Investigators found that the Medical Examiner's Office was missing supplies of meth and fentanyl, the narcotic that had killed her husband. With each clue discovered, another piece of Rossum's "good girl" facade fell away. What the world would eventually see was the true face of a murderer - and the hand of justice.

Inside a beautiful house in Philadelphia's ritzy Main Line section lay the body of a young mother - dead of an apparent drowning in her bathtub. With no sign of a break-in, no history of marital problems, and the naïve belief that these things sometimes just happen, Stefanie Rabinowitz's family prepared to bury the 29-year-old wife and mother. But at the 11th hour, because Stefanie was so young, and because there were no witnesses to her death, an autopsy was ordered. And what it revealed was unthinkable: Stefanie had been murdered.

On June 9, 2008, the butchered body of Travis Alexander was found in his Mesa, Arizona, home. The grisly nature of his death made instant headlines: With 29 knife wounds, his throat slit, and a gunshot to the head, Travis was left to die. The prime suspect in the case was Alexander's ex-girlfriend, the attractive and soft-spoken Jodi Arias. Though Arias initially said that she was nowhere near the scene of crime, little about this case was as it seemed, and before long she had been caught lying to police. As the investigation progressed, her lies evolved multiple times before finally resting on an appalling claim: She had killed Travis in self-defense.

Story
As an exotic dancer at The Great Alaskan Bush Company in Anchorage, Mechele Hughes Linehan knew how to captivate men. Three of them were convinced she was engaged to them. Then one spring morning in 1996, one man, Kent Leppink, was found in the snow, shot in the head....Days before his death, Kent had removed Mechele's name from his million-dollar life insurance policy. He wrote a letter to his family stating that, should he meet foul play, Mechele would likely be among those involved. But she wasn't charged with Kent's death. She married a doctor, moved to Olympia, Washington, and began a new life.

Story
It was the trial that stunned America, the verdict that shocked us all. On July 5, 2011, nearly three years after her initial arrest, Casey Anthony walked away, virtually scot-free, from one of the most sensational murder trials of all time. She'd been accused of killing her daughter, Caylee, but the trial only left behind more questions: Was she actually innocent? What really happened to Caylee? Was this what justice really looked like?

On a bitterly cold afternoon in December 1986, a Michigan State trooper found the frozen body of Jerry Tobias in the bed of his pickup truck. The 31-year-old oil field worker and small-time drug dealer was clad only in jeans, a checkered shirt, and cowboy boots. Inside the cab of the truck was a fresh package of expensive steaks from a local butcher shop, the first lead in a case that would be quickly lost in a thicket of bungled forensics, shady prosecution, and a psychopathic star witness out for revenge.

Story
It’s a chilling reality that homicide investigators know all too well: The last face most murder victims see is not that of a stranger, but of someone familiar. Whether only an acquaintance or a trusted intimate, such killers share a common trait that triggers the downward spiral toward death for someone close to them: They are masters at hiding who they really are. Their clever masks let them appear safe, kind, and truthful. They are anything but - and almost no one can detect the murderous impulses buried deep in their psyches.

“Free the West Memphis Three!” - maybe you’ve heard the phrase, but do you know why their story is so alarming? Do you know the facts? The guilty verdicts handed out to three Arkansas teens in a horrific capital murder case were popular in their home state - even upheld on appeal. But after two HBO documentaries called attention to the witch-hunt atmosphere at the trials, artists and other supporters raised concerns about the accompanying lack of evidence.

Iowa housewife Tracey Pittman Roberts seemed to have it all: natural beauty, three loving children, and a fairy-tale second marriage to a wealthy, handsome businessman. But beneath the happy façade was a woman who used lies, manipulation, sex, ugly allegations, blackmail - and even murder - to serve her own selfish ends. In 2001, police rushed to Tracey's home after a shooting left her vulnerable young neighbor dead. Tracey claimed it was an act of self-defense. When a hideous murder makes the headlines, a barrage of questions usually appears in its wake: Why did this happen? Could it have been prevented? What kind of family was the criminal from? Are his parents in some way to blame? Any crime writer worth his salt would attempt to answer these questions - but how do you address such questions when the killer is your own son? In a brave, honest, and moving work, best-selling true-crime writer Carlton Stowers examines the downfall of his eldest son, once a happy child full of promise, now a convicted murderer serving a 60-year sentence.

Could of been a good story.
What did you like best about Poisoned Love? What did you like least?
I don't have a favorite part. It's a true crime story. I have 2 hours left, and not sure I'll finish it.
Would you be willing to try another book from Caitlin Rother? Why or why not?
Yes, I would.
What aspect of Tanya Eby’s performance would you have changed?
I thought at first she was OK but, I can't finish it and it's mostly because of the narrator. She just got to me about halfway thru the story. Can't quite put my finger on what it is that I don't like about the narration. I listen to 2-3 audio books a week, and usually can pinpoint what it is that I don't like about a reading.
Could you see Poisoned Love being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Maybe.
Any additional comments?
It's a story that could of been better.

It was good
It was a good story and yes, a lot of things were repeated but that is the case when you have a story like this. It has to be repeated.

Not a bad story but to much repetition
The author does a lot of repeating things she has already said. It was a good story, again not sure how she thought she would get away with it. Still not sure if the boyfriend had anything to do with it, I do not think Greg was that controlling, yes maybe more so when he found out about him and the drugs but I think she did what she wanted to. I do believe she killed him, not sure why, maybe she didn't want him and didn't want anyone else to have him. For sure she didn't want anyone to know she was doing drugs. As for the boyfriend I don't feel sorry for him or her at all. Maybe if he kept things in his pants he would have a good life doing a job he wanted to do, making good money.
Beside so much repeating things that we were already told I thought this was a good story, the author did her research and gave the facts. It was a little boring at times with all the repeating but all in all a good listen.
The narrator did a great job showing emotion of each character, her normal voice is a good as her character voices. There are no background noise, no volume changes, no repeating of words, I always knew who was talking and what they were feeling. She really brought the story to life.

listened @.8 speed and it wasn't so bad
narrator was speed reading this so fast I slowed the play back and then I could follow it. I like true crime novels but this felt like a school report more than a book

Thoroughly detailed
Very sad but most are when the story revolves around true crime murder stories. The author covers every detail very carefully.
