About this listen

Phoebe is the fated priestess, a channel for magic, whether she likes it or not. She has little power of her own - or does she?

A piece of golden jewelry might hold the key to a plot to suppress the priestess's true magic. Until she can find the secrets, however, she has to stay alive and keep her four guardians in line: Sir Forrest, her grumpy and reluctant but truly devoted protector; Gilbert the bard, who fell in love with the Prince of Gaermon before he discovered his true fate; Niko the Lucky Dragon, an arrogant smuggler who bows to no one but won't make a move without rolling his dice; and one who is her sworn enemy, but thanks to the magic, Phoebe can't resist him - and he can't resist her.

All her guardians have been found, but this is just the beginning. Who is a friend and who is a foe? What are the Shadow Guardians, really? The Emperor wants her dead, but even the Elders have not told the entire story...

Contains mature themes.

Better then book one, but on the fence still

Summary
Without spoilers but hints.

Book two starts with her forth guardian who kidnapped her. He is the enemy and refuses to be part of magic. He gives her up to the king where bad things are about to happen to her. Later on an unlikely rescuer grabs her from the dungeon of sorts, but it comes with a price.
The ritual from the priest were never completed. You end up finding out many secrets in this book. She has to figure out what her destiny is and who is going to be part of it.

My review
So book number two is better than a book number one in many ways. I wish they would have added some more details to book one so it wasn’t so off-putting. I believe a lot of people would’ve stopped listening after bookone. But if they made it to book two, then the intrigue into the story hooks you a lot more.
People they thought they can trust no can no longer be trusted and some enemies become likable but deadly.
Many truths get twisted. Like in a good way. The author did a wonderful job. You could never guess on the twist and turns upcoming in this book.

Main character reviews
There is some character growth in this book, more with some, than others. The main female character is better. Less childish. She still has moments where you cringe at her actions. But she is growing. The main character forest is also one still growing but he’s my favorite of the four guys. The two gay men. Gary, and firo I think. They Have there growth. In book one they became so accepting of the situation, which was kind of weird. They were in a long-term relationship and that was all screwed up because of some destiny. Now a man in love must love another. No drama in book one. In book 2, it seems they have their own truths to find and the outcome of that is an interesting one. I like that they spent more time on the relationship growth. Dragon guy is my least favorite. He is childish more than the others. The simple actions of touch fear him or showing any type of emotion. It’s easier for him to be a bossy jerk. Then you have the new guy, which I will not say much about. Cause it might give things away. Other than he’s brain washed and kinda dumb, in my opinion.

Would I suggest the book?
Book 2 is a lot better and I do recommend.
I’m glad I got book two for free cause I pretty sure I would have dropped the series after book one. The series gets better and storyline hooks you. I plan on buying book three to figure out the damn outcome. Will they make it to the gate after the loss and what they gained. I need to know. Plus they keep throwing new truths at you. Truth bombs and head explosions.
This book won’t go on my favorites list, but it’s not so bad the further you get along.

This book is less like a porn vibe. You get more into the storyline. You still have your sexy parts which are thrown in, some oddly and awkward. But better then book one.

Narration
Book to thankfully has more parts for Troy Duran. He is one of my favorites. And both of the narrators make a great team. I give them five stars, and I would listen to future books that they read together. They bring emotions and personality to the words they read. Amazing.

Thiis book knows what it did, and isn't sorry. I quite enjoyed it. Also both narrators were excellent. I highly recommend it.

Getting Better

This story continued with Pheobe finding her 4th guardian! I will say it is better than book one. I have more interest in where specific storylines will wrap up in book 3. My problem is still that Pheobe is a bad FMC. She is showing signs of some cool power but is still a sex doll in this book as well. Also the sex, however good it is, why do they always stop to have a detailed conversation in the middle of it!?! It is infuriating at times!!
