An Adorable Story Written by a Father and Daughter

Primrose’s Curse: A Fairy Tale of an Audacious Girl
By Kiara and Vinay Shankar
Review by Megan Schmelzer

Reading has magical powers. It can find lost souls. It can take you on adventures you have never dreamed of before. It can unite generations together in a shared love. If one open’s his or her heart to the power of reading, the magic of a love for books could surely change a person’s life.

For the father and daughter team of Kiara and Vinay Shankar, reading brought these two together in a shared adventure of their own. Side-by-side, they set off on a journey to write stories together. The result was their creation of a brave, young character named Primrose.

Through the story, this audacious young character would take on her challenges with kindness and cleverness. Time and time again, Primrose’s heart would serve as the greatest indicator of her true self. It would show that her inner beauty would forever be the cause of her being the one chosen for the ultimate journey to save mankind.

Alongside her through her daring journey to Hellevue, Primrose has her trusty gang of magical animals that consult her and support her in the journey to defeat the evil Queen Evelyn Velecrona in order to save her family. Through the trials of their journey, Primrose and her animal sidekicks work together to conquer each obstacle set before them. They prove that together they have the power and abilities to make sure good reigns supreme throughout Heavenvue and the human world.

What I love most about the book, Primrose’s Curse: A Fairy Tale of an Audacious Girl, is that it is clearly the result of the labor of love between this father and daughter duo. It was evident as I was reading through the pages of their book that this story was the result of many hours of work. As I read, I found myself continually picturing the two of them huddled together side-by-side. I could almost hear them as they bounced off their creative ideas between each other on what Primrose and her beloved animal friends would face next on their daring journey.

Kiara’s and Vinay‘s book is creative, and each page resonates with their shared passion for creating stories together. I absolutely loved how this parent and child duo created a story in order to share with the world how reading and writing bonds the two of them together.

Even at twelve years old, Kiara has seen and will forever know that her dad shares in her passion for reading and that he believes in her talent to create stories. I am looking forward to seeing what these two have in store with their second book titled Primrose’s Destiny: An Audacious Girl Destined to Save Earth.

Audible Review -

Laura Walsh's audible interpretation of the book was beautifully done. From beginning the end, the voiced telling of the story was filled with passion and energy that brings the creativity of the story to light. I am amazed at the narrator's ability to illustrate all the different characters through her voice changes and pacing. This Audible version will allow reads another format to enjoy Vinay and Kiara's book titled Primrose's curse.

Beautiful Imagination

As a primary school going kid, I never liked reading Fairy tales. I don’t exactly remember why. Maybe I was too lazy to read and imagine things. But all I did was flip through the pages staring at the illustrations. .
.
Primose’s Curse is authored by a father-daughter duo. No wonder the story begins with Primrose’s undying love for her father. She sets out on a long journey to find some magical herbs for her ailing father and embarks on a longer mission to save humanity after she encounters her magical woodland friends.
The narration of the story is beautiful and kept simple. I liked how Primrose’s journey is imagined all throughout. The plot is very meaningful. Defeating evil forces and saving humanity. The theme sounds deep but the perspectives of a young author makes it very simple. Kindness, coexistence of humans and animals peacefully, sharing, caring, choosing good over evil are some of the beautiful lessons that the story emphasises on. The illustrations after every few pages will help young readers relate to the scenes. Please read out the story to your kids, niece/nephew or any young kid you know.
I’m sure this book will help you travel back in time and relive your childhood again.
Listening to the audiobook was equally wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to appreciate the voice artist for such a beautiful and clear narration 😮
If you simply keep your eyes shut and listen to how the story progresses, you will live through the entire journey with PRIMROSE, just like I did. At times, I would just pause for a while and wonder how brave the young author must be to imagine such a difficult journey. She also seems to be have an independent thought process. I liked the idea of Primrose courageously heading towards Hellevue to defeat the evil sorceress without the help of a Prince unlike other fairy tales. She didn’t look back to bring her brother Stanley either after she had an encounter with the woodland animals😮. So brave that is.
Can’t wait to read the next in the series. I’m sure Kiara and her Dad already imagined how Primrose will use her extraordinary magical powers towards the cause of humanity again.
My best wishes to the young debutant. ♥♥♥

WHICH WAS YOUR FAVOURITE FAIRYTALE AS A KID?
I did have my favourites but I liked all of them!!

Well, here's a fairytale written by a 6th grader, Kiara & her father Vinay Shankar.
Primrose's Curse: A fairytale of an audacious girl.
Audacious- adjective, willing to take risks.

Genre- children books, fantasy fiction.

I read this book to refresh myself & to get out of my reading slump.
It rejuvenated me & brought back my precious childhood memories..

It gets you transported to magical world.

The imagination & creativity of Kiara has beautifully translated into a fantasy fiction read which will definitely connect with the imagination of other kids.

It has beautiful illustrations, colours & a freshness to it. The narration is simple and calming. 144 pages long, a quick read & a perfect bedtime story. A wonderful gift for someone you love.

This daring mission involves vanquishing the evil sorceress Queen Evelyn Velecrona & breaking the curse she has cast on humanity.

It's all about the adventures;

Will the bunch of lovable woodland animals & an innocent 12 year old girl really succeed in bringing down the dreadful queen Evelyn?

Will they be able to bring back peace, well being & happiness to humanity?

The book teaches the raw, young readers important moral qualities like friendship, kindness, selflessness through the myriad characters in the story.

It is dedicated to humanity, how thoughtful..

The book is published by Kiara's doting father, via his company VIKI publishing & at present the co. is focussed only on her books. Kiara is at the moment working on more fiction & cartoon books.

Would love to read the sequel to this book, Primrose's Destiny.

And this book is also being translated in Punjabi Lang.

A beautiful beautiful read.
