About this listen

The fifth book in the captivating series which follows the lives of Beth and Alex MacGregor, their family, and friends.

The rebellion is over. Prince Charles is in hiding, the Jacobite clans are scattered to the four winds, and in Inverness, the Duke of Cumberland plans a brutal retribution against the Highlanders who rose against his father. His intention: to ensure they can never rise again.

Alex, knowing Beth to be dead, leads his men into a vicious war of attrition against the British Redcoats, who have destroyed everything in life he ever held dear. Only his desire for revenge keeps him alive.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Cumberland is hatching a plan that he is confident will reveal the true identity of Sir Anthony Peters, the man who made a fool of the king, the duke, and all society. A man he wishes to capture alive, more than anyone else.

Join the continuing rebellion of the MacGregors and their fight for revenge and survival in The Jacobite Chronicles.

Super awesome historical fiction

I love these stories because they are well written and historically accurate
Most historical fiction bends the history to the story, but Ms Brannon’s work weaves her fictional character into the true history. I particularly loved and hated this book. I didn’t like all the torture scenes, but they were factual and represented the treatment at the time. I also loved it that the ultimate outcome was one I would have hoped for!

Warning: Cliffhanger

This book is more historical in our continuing story. It highlights the severity of the trials the Scots endured and the ruthless nature of the British in their campaign to eliminate future uprisings.
There is a pretty big discrepancy between books 4 and 5 related to a major event, but if you can get past it you’ll be happy.
The female narrator changed in this book. I don’t usually like it when that happens and this is no exception. She’s kind of flat compared to Rosalyn Landor.
It’s a satisfying read although very heartbreaking.

Excellent story, narration not so much

I adored the first four books in this series, narrated by Rosalyn Landor and Will M. Watt. The text of this book is fantastic, but, Rosalyn Landor was replaced by Lucy Raynor as the female narrator. Her narration was like fingernails on a blackboard. Her speech is affectatious and sounds disdainful, which doesn’t match the down to earth characters at all. I did eventually get used to it and find it not as distracting, but certainly not an enjoyable listening experience. I gave the performance three stars only because of the incomparable Will M. Watt, who is always fantastic. I would need a compelling reason to listen to anything narrated by Lucy Raynor ever again.

Dear Lord!

If this was a reading of Cat Lady Lucy Rayner would be perfect. However, for this series she is absolutely WRONG!!! Her affect at the end of each sentence is driving me crazy!!!! I hope the original reader of the female parts read the rest of the books. I have zero objection with Will M. Watt. He reads his parts perfectly.

This is a fantastic series! The story is woven around historical events that have been thoroughly researched by the author. I cannot wait until the final book come out on Audible.

Love the books, hate the new female narrator

I've read all the books and loved them, and I loved the audiobooks of 1-4. However, the new female narrator is horrible...her voice & intonations made me want to pour bleach in my ears! She needs to find a new profession or stick to narrating soft core porn. Thank God for Will M. Watts...he is fantastic!.

Story line

The storyline is good, but I do not like the female narrator, Lucy Rayner. I do not like her way of reading. But that is my personal opinion.
