Publisher's summary

Hundreds of years before Red

Civilization is failing in a steady decline. In a last-ditch effort to save themselves, humanity has turned to trying to understand their world even as they seek to protect themselves from the monsters within it. This is how Evelyn Willock found herself stationed in the farthest northern reaches of the habitable zone and answering the call to investigate a strange sighting in the mines much farther to the north where all other human settlements had failed.

It is no small task. Few will go outside the habitable zone. Fewer still will venture beyond the northern border, where the forests grow thick and are filled with innumerable dangers. Stationed where she is, Evie is the best candidate to take on the job. She is familiar with the dangers of the forests.

But in the woods, something new lurks. Wolfish monsters, larger than men, brutal, and terrifying.

Danger and pleasure meet when the tables are turned, and she becomes the hunted, the feast for their inhuman hunger. Within it all, Evie discovers a meeting of hearts with three males from a dying species who would seek to claim her in every way.

Torn between duty and desire, Evie must discover the secrets that haunt the northern lands and decide on the course her future is to take. To stay with the males who have captured her heart would mean leaving all that she knew behind. But beyond that, another worry was coming to light. If the Ragoru were not the cause of the reported sighting, what was? And was it possible that a new, even more insidious danger lurked beneath the mountains?

Intended for mature listeners.

i absolutely loved this book, very well thought out. My one grievance is that it felt rushed at the end.

A fantastic Prequel!! ♥️🔥♥️

Not every series does a wonderful job writing a prequel after the series has already started. SJ Sanders has done an absolutely fantastic job with this book. This gives us the beginning where it all starts where the Ragoru come from, who brought them here and how the Huntsmen become so powerful. It’s powerful and the characters are beautifully written have chemistry and depth. The storyline is fantastic and SJ Sanders does a first class job with the world building. Heather Firth and Gavin McAllister do a phenomenal job with the narration!! Totally worth listening to ♥️♥️♥️🔥♥️🥰🥰

Love the Ragoru.

This origin story was awesome! It made me want to go back and listen to the other 3 books again. S.J. Sanders has a way of conveying mood and emotion in a moment that not many authors have the skill or talent for. Painting a time and place that matches none, yet is relatable. I don't think there will be a Ragoru tale I would refuse. They are all very different and never fail pull you into their world.

Ragoru

I love this series, it was such a pleasure to hear the start of this series, and the event leading up to this time line. I can't wait to see if there will be in the series

World building, good plot and spice

I loved that the author took time to build the plot properly and left room for the story to grow. The narrators did a good job of bringing the story to life. Overall good performance and good smut.

Not as good as the others

The story wasnt written that well this time around. I also wasnt a huge fan of either of the narrator's. The MMC sounded more like a wise old man, which made the sex scenes sound kinda cringe. The FMC was kinda like a bobble headed teenager. It didn't help that her reactions upon first meeting the Ragoru just weird. I mean she's never seen the species before and she just wants to sleep with one already? and it's prequel to the others? That just made the story so lack luster with that kind of lame insta love.

No. Just no.

Dudes going down on each other. Need I say more. I like my smut to not be SJW cringe and homoerotic cringe.
