About this listen

In a world that just won’t make a lot of sense for them, you are your ADHD child’s lifeline. Make sure you’re equipped to take on this difficult yet fulfilling challenge.

Have you heard the saying: The real task of a parent is to work themselves out of a job? When your kids don’t need you, that’s when you know you are parenting well.

You want your children to grow strong, healthy, and resilient, and become competent, happy, and fulfilled in their lives. You know you won’t always be around to be their safety net, so they need to become competent and effective in their own right, at some point.

But adding ADHD into the mix means we need to bring a whole different level of thinking to our parenting strategies.

It’s not just about managing what the rest of the world sees as naughty or bad behavior. It’s not just about getting them to sit still, be quiet, and obey. That kind of thinking went out with the Titanic!

You can transform your child’s life experience, and your relationship with them, from one of struggle to one of meaningful joy and ease.

Changing your view of your ADHD child from that of a problem to be solved, to an exciting and fascinating puzzle to unlock is the first step, and this guide will show you the rest.

In this practical and realistic book, you will discover:

  • What it is like inside an ADHD mind, and how you can step inside their world and understand them a whole lot better
  • Powerful parenting strategies that help unlock your child’s superpowers and strengths, building them up rather than breaking them down
  • What to do about the difficult aspects of raising an ADHD child, such as meltdowns, defiance, hyperactivity, and lack of focus
  • Top tips and tricks to help your child work with their ADHD rather than struggle against it—and make studying, focusing, and socializing so much easier for everyone
  • How to speak so your ADHD child hears you

Loved this Perspective!

I loved this perspective of using ADHD as a superpower! When I was a teacher I taught a student who thought of his ADHD as a superpower and it clearly helped him just completely thrive in his life. Brooke Clegg does an amazing job at making this mindset shift and helping parents understand what it is like inside an ADHD mind, as well as providing powerful parenting strategies to unlock your child’s superpowers and strengths. I was particularly impressed with the tips and tricks to help your child work with their ADHD rather than struggle against it—and make studying, focusing, and socializing so much easier for everyone. Gretchen Weber’s narration was exceptional and brought the content alive for me. I would highly recommend this audiobook to parents of children with ADHD who are looking for a comprehensive and holistic approach to parenting their child.

A Caring Handbook for Parents

While "Raising a Child with ADHD" provides insightful counsel, there are times when its intricacy may make some readers want for more specific details or tailored help. Furthermore, not every reader will identify with the book's emphasis on a certain parenting style, especially those who are looking for a wider variety of viewpoints.
