Publisher's summary

Coming home and finding out my ex is my new roommate is a nightmare…especially when I’ve been pretending to hate her for years.

Harper Davidson has been ingrained on my heart since we were kids, and now she’s tattooed on my skin. But she’ll never know about either. Not when she’s better off thinking we’re enemies.

Having her in my space every day and sharing a wall with her every night is a challenge I never saw coming. A challenge I’m not sure I’m up to.

Especially when our daytime games turn into nighttime dares, pushing each other to the breaking point until our neighbors know exactly who’s making her scream.

As lines blur and feelings deepen, we begin teetering on the edge of something more. And it's becoming harder to pretend that this is nothing—that she is nothing.

Because this second chance is starting to feel like a last chance.

It’s always been her for me, but I’m broken beyond repair and don’t know how to be the man she needs. These demons in my closet are never silent, and I’ll do anything to keep them from dragging her down with me.

Even if that means letting her go again.

amazing performance

🎧 Grumpy guy, and they are forced to live together, I like. Would have liked more banter, maybe, but that's just me. There is a history with these two, that is given to us in tiny tiny pieces. By 7% of the book, I know I will get the rest of them at some point, I would like to see the stories of the rest of the family. The way they try to drive each other crazy, my cup of tea. It is a bit slow pace, for those who mind.

🎧 Performance wise. Zachary Johnson is new to me. Why haven't I crossed paths with his work before? It is sooooooooo gooood. Definitely not just reading lines. A new favourite.
Lucy Rivers. Hello. This might be my favourite of the few books I have listened from you so far. The different voices, her emotion. Love it.

❗️ Disclaimer : My rants, ramblings, and incoherent thoughts might be considered spoilers by some. Also, often, I do not read trigger warnings or blurbs.

🎧 That performance at the end, Mr. Johnson!!!! My respects. Gut wrenching.

The story of grumpy, elusive Levi. He gives Aiden a run for his money. I love this family and this story coming to an end was absolutely bittersweet. Brighton, I'll happily read any and all epilogues and short stories from Starlight Cove from now until eternity. I loved Harper and how their story unfolded. 😭😭😭 I'm not crying, you're crying!

Emotional.

This is Book 6 in the Starlight Cove series and we finally get to see Levi get his HEA. This is a second chance, enemies to lovers story. Levi and Addison had young love that ended suddenly, leaving Harper broken hearted. Now she’s back in Starlight Cove and although both of them try, they can’t seem to forget about their nights together and how they felt, and still feel, about each other. After suffering a severe loss, Levi now carries guilt that washes over into everything in his life. Harper and his family help him once he finally verbalizes what he is feeling. Harper also isn’t the same girl she was when they were young and surprises Levi with her tenacity. This book tackled mental health issues and how important it is to verbalize what you’re feeling and not try to do everything alone.
The narration by Zachary Johnson and Lucy Rivers was spectacular. Zachary brought me to tears with an extremely emotional portrayal of Levi when he finally breaks. There is just something about a mans voice quivering that does me in every time. Lucy pulled no punches as Harper and shined like always.

Spectacular

Brighton. Girlfriend. I genuinely think you spiked this book with something because MY GOD. I’ve never laughed so hard while having tears in my eyes because I just finished crying. This book was everything I needed and more. Thank you for this series. Thank you for sharing these characters with us. I have high hopes that we aren’t done with Starlight Cove, but I trust you wholeheartedly.

This audio was spectacular. Zachary Johnson and Lucy Rivers blew this audio out of the park. The emotional parts of this book had me sobbing as I was listening along to their performance. This is easily now one of my comfort listens. Phenomenal duet audio. You are going to LOVE it!

Beautiful end of the series

I did a reread on the audio version of this one and all the yes! I cried again during the emotional parts. And the steamy parts - holy cannoli were they hot. The performers did an incredible job of brining Levi and Harper to life. Hearing this one on audio for sure makes me want to go back and listen to the others.

If I could live in a fictional small town, I would want it to be Starlight Cove. This series has been the best small town I’ve read, and the McKenzie family is my favorite.

Levi finally gets his book with Rebel Heart. He’s the grumpy, aloof brother who keeps everyone at arms length, but when the full story behind this comes out, it was heartbreaking. Thank god for Harper returning and giving him someone to fight for, be a better man for. She believes Levi hates her based on the way her broke her heart years ago, but she eventually realizes that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Rebel Heart is a deliciously spicy second chance romance, but even more, it’s a story about healing and fighting for happiness. And it was the absolute perfect end for the series!

What a finale!

I knew when I read this book that Levi was going to wreck me and he did. Now he's done it again in the audio.

Lucy Rivers and Zachary Johnson perform Harper and Levi's second-chance romance with all the fire and heartache of their characters. Harper has been living by her own rules and isn't afraid to go after what she wants. Lucy embodied Harper's fierce independence and determination. Levi's got demons no one knew he'd been wrestling with and Zachary gave a heart wrenching portrayal of loss, grief, and guilt.

Lucy and Zachary also delivered on the insanely hot chemistry between Harper and Levi as well as the comedy of well-meaning nosey siblings, best friends, and a meddling landlady.

I'm sad to see this series end but I look forward to seeing where Brighton takes us next!

I loved it!!!

Rebel Heart was amazing. It was an absolute pleasure for my eardrums.

These narrators, Zachary Johnson and Lucy Rivers did a fabulous job in bringing life to this emotional rollercoaster of a story.

They knocked it out the park in embodying Levi and Harper as well as the side characters. They brought vivid life to their voices while also heightening the emotional impact of their emotions and struggles.

I don't know how they did it but they also managed to take the heat up several notches, be prepared to be burned to ash.

I didn't think it was possible to love this book more yet here I am overflowing with love for it.

I highly recommend it as well as the rest of the series.

The perfect second chance romance!

I fell in love with this second chance romance from the very beginning. I love a grumpy guy and Levi is the epitome of grumpy! He wants nothing more than to be left alone and do what he wants. Unfortunately his family and a meddling neighbor don’t allow him to do that. Suddenly his first love is his roommate and he has to figure out what to do with his feelings.

You could feel the tension of the characters while listening. I love how the emotions came through in the words of the narrators. Having dual narration allows you to get different perspectives in the story and to feel how the characters felt in the moment. I can’t wait to listen again while reading my paperback!

Perfect casting, gorgeous story!

Brighton Walsh, you put all my favorite things into the story of Levi and Harper. I immediately need to say this: the casting of Lucy Rivers and Zachary Johnson was a masterpiece. I’ve listened to many delicious Lucy narrations, and this was my first for Zachary. I’ve eyeballed this series, and this is the first book of the series that I’ve listened to.

Levi is barely holding it together. A family trauma has haunted him for over a decade and he feels an immense sense of guilt. He blames himself for his mother’s accidental death, and immerses himself into his work of restoring boats. His family has grown and married and he feels destined to live the lonely life.

Harper is headed back to Starlight Cove to cover a story of a local celebrity. She’s not been back to the town she vacationed at in her younger since she left for good at the age of 18. Their young love was sealed when Levi broke it off with her and she forged her own path. She needs a place to stay, and conveniently the town meddler Mabel has an apartment for her to stay in. Easy peasy, right?

That apartment just so happens to already be occupied by Levi — a little hitch exists in his renter’s agreement that he didn’t count on. This second chance, forced proximity romance is played with chemistry and heart by Lucy and Zachary. They start with an equal disdain for each other, and both characters are voiced with a level of protectiveness and hurt.

As the slow-burn starts to ignite and intensify, Lucy shines with Harper’s whispers and raspy taunting to lure Levi in. And Zachary was a most eye opening surprise — his voice captures the heat and clear attraction Levi has to Harper. As they reconnect the mirroring of desire and strength Lucy and Zachary portray gives you a sense of the history between these two characters.

I received this as an ALC and had it on nonstop once it landed in my hands. It’s the conclusion of the series, so it felt bittersweet, and I loved every second of this story. Lucy shines in this duet and Zachary’s is a voice I hope she is paired with in the future.
