About this listen

“Letting go is hard to do…”

Three summers ago, Austin Rose and James “Cass” Cassedy were wrapped in a romance they thought would last forever. The laughs, the thrills, the late nights under the Oklahoma stars—everything about that summer was perfect. Until it wasn’t.

Now, with Austin long gone, Cass struggles with her memory, his own self-worth, and demons too tempting for him to turn away. Can he overcome his troubles on his own, or will it take someone from his past to help him see the light?

The second book of the Red Dirt Series takes a dive into the tumultuous life of addiction, trauma, and most of all, heartache.

So, hold on to your boots. It’s a bumpy ride.

If comfort food were a voice…

So, full transparency, this is not my preferred genre. But it’s an excellent example of its genre, I think. Brooke writes in a very relatable way and, and a child of the 80s myself, creates characters and situations that all seem within an arm reach or so of people I knew and paths I’ve seen taken.

And cass’s voice. Oh brother. You wanna talk about comfort food in a voice, at least for anyone who grew up in the south…it’s Gene. His performance was fantastic, and had me in equal measure cracking up, rolling my eyes when he does a stupid, and wishing I could comfort him (not in that way, you dirty minds) when grief and anger erode him. I knew that kid. I knew a few of them.

Now, I’m not sure if it swayed me on genre. It probably still won’t ever by my first go-to. BUT, I can happily say that I’ll listen to pretty much anything narrated by this guy, and I’ll certainly be trying more from this author on occasion, since I DO feel like she’s an excellent representation of this kind of work. Particularly when the two team up!

Great story

Really enjoyed this story. Narrator was great. I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s. So this book brought back so many memories. Hope there is a book 3 soon.

Loved Gene storytelling voice!! It was great !! I didn’t like how the story ended with the cliff hanger.
