Hyggelig gjensyn med boken som åpnet sci-fi universet for meg

Den Røde planet var en av de første sci-fi bøkene jeg leste. Det er over 40 år siden, og jeg husket hele boken. Den gjorde uutslettelig inntrykk.

Still has a little punch to it.

It's interesting to hear what some of what of the thoughts and beliefs we had around Mars. Reality of course, tells us how wrong we where. 😎

So much story in such a short span

I have long been a fan of the 2000 movie by the same title, but that has nothing to do with this Heinlein piece. I'm glad it got me to look into it though, very cool story. An excellent world with compelling conflicts between all the characters. They discover and resolve multiple layers of problems all throughout. Fun read.

1949 classic, don't miss this sale

I found this classic sci-fi on the $199 sale narrated by my new fave narrator Zach Villa. He's an actor a dancer and a great narrator. He brings this classic sci-fi to vivid color and as a classic it stands the test of time. Sci-fi is not my genre, but this is so entertaining and so imaginative and so wonderfully written I cannot say more. So if you wanna be entertained the old fashion way this book is for you. It's wholesome as they used to write good novels. Where are my comments of help?

Great for Kids

I love Heinlein, so I thought I'd check it out. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's definately not going to make older audiences swoon.

Fun story

We know that Mars doesn’t have living creatures on it nowadays but if one applied it to a planet in another solar system it would be just as good. It’s fun story that’s very entertaining. 20th century science fiction is the best science fiction. Hands down.

Out of date for what we know, but a fun adventure!

Read this the first time in 1959 & got totally hooked on Science Fiction! Yes, our knowledge of Mars has considerably changed since 1949 when this was written, but the story is great and could be transposed to a company mining town in the USA around the turn of the 20th century with extremely harsh living conditions; like Star Wars was similar to a John Houston horse opera but in space.
This book is clean & fun for kids and anyone who loved/still loves Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov's stories - it took poetic license with Mars topography but we could wish it were true!

Classic coming of age story

I first read this novel around 1983 when I was in high school. This book is firmly set in the main line of Robert Heinlein's future history and introduces us to the same Martian culture found in his mega hit Stranger in a Strange Land. This story is set a generation later on Mars where human colonists have negotiated permission to set up colonies and start a process to reduce the surface iron oxide dust into useful iron and free oxygen to thicken the atmosphere and modify the climate to be more like earth. Our young hero and his best friend are setting off to boarding school to earn their high school diplomas but in standard coming of age fiction things quickly go awry and they must grow up and shoulder adult responsibilities to protect their families from a looming disaster. Highly recommended, like all of the Heinlein juvenile novels this book is good for all ages from 9 to 99.
