Publisher's summary

Warrior queens and roman invaders do battle in the final volume of this thrilling epic fantasy trilogy.

Caesar's soldiers have murdered, massacred, and pillaged their way through Gaul and loom on the far side of the sea, ready to descend upon Britain - with them are an unstoppable legion of men twisted by dark magic. Somehow Queen Lowa must repel the invasion, although her best general is dead and her young druid powerless. She faces impossible odds, but when the alternative is death or slavery, a warrior queen will do whatever it takes to save her people.

Every empire has its downfall.

Reign of iron the last book

I adore the first two books but I felt this one went a little off track. I guess I was hoping for a better wrap up but a girl can't have everything. I didn't want to start this book knowing it was the ending to a series I have come to love and maybe that's why I struggled to finish it or the reason for my dissatisfaction with the ending but I still recommend the series to any book reader or listener I meet.

This trilogy will be in my top ten list.

Every once in a while you start a new book or series that just draws you in and can't put down. This was one of those for me. character's you love, love to hate and hated at first but loved at the end. I am a big fan of historical fiction. If you are then give this trilogy a try.

This trilogy was awesome! Enjoyed every single part of this book as well as the other two. Perfect balance between fantasy, comedy, and war drama.

Amazing!!

This combo of Watson and Barrett is every bit as wonderful as Abercrombie and Pacey (sp). I'm looking forward to Barrett's next series. The writing makes it impossible to finish this series without truly caring about this world... it is our history, after all. The narration is timed and delivered perfectly as it weaves between the horror of war, the futility of power, the humor in struggle, and the heart pounding beneath it all. Thank you for a wonderful story.

and the trilogy ends

The trilogy ends and it was a long, winding story. The historical perspective was interesting as you don't often find stories set in Britain in the time before Christ. The author did a good job of bringing the era to life and made it interesting even with the fantasy part of the story. There were lots of interesting characters, some good romance, some rotten gore but all in all this book and the trilogy was a fun listen.

Deep Thinking Characters

I love the way Gus puts you into the mind of a character. We all have that inner chatter going on in our mind, mostly meaningless crap on autopilot. Gus has a way of making you feel like you are inside a character's mind, which makes you feel like you are that character. The inner dialogue makes his characters deep.
