Publisher's summary

Magic is returning to our world . . . early.

Detective Leira Berens' case blew up in her face. A last-minute surge of magic was the only thing that kept her in one piece.

The dangerous necklace is still in play and she has no leads. Her new powers hint at a secret sauce in her DNA. Can they help her win the race?

Oh yeah, the Feds have noticed and are tracking her.

A Light Elf is willing to help . . . along with a swearing troll and an entire magical community she never knew existed. Austin, Texas, just got a lot more interesting.

The necklace reappears only to change hands during a dangerous battle. Who has the necklace now?

That may have to wait. Family comes first and Leira has a shot to free her mom. Can she take it and still do her part to save the world?

Decent story and narration..

This was a good read, but I think that comes from Yumfuck. What a wonderful little character, and I do mean little, since he's only 5 inches tall. He has attached himself to Leira so when she feel in danger he grows into a giant.

Between the necklace, that's now been stolen by a traitor, and Keira's change of jobs and getting her mother out of the crazy-house and her growth in her magic, this has become very exciting at times. I like Correk a great deal, as well as Keira's "bar" family. I will continue with this series.

No romance whatsoever and the F-bomb was used 74 times.

As for the narration: Again Eva Wilhelm forgot when a man was talking so they sounded feminine BUT she keeps getting better.

Good story, poor narration

The monotonous robotic droning of the narrator was torture. All of the characters sound the same. The storyline is great. The characters are very good, especially yumfuck!
