About this listen

Christianity has tended to focus on right beliefs and right choices as the keys for personal growth. But biblical evidence and modern brain science show that our character is shaped more by whom we love than what we believe.

Through conversations he had with Dallas Willard at the Heart and Soul Conference shortly before Dallas' death, Jim Wilder shows how we can train our brains to relate to God based on joyful, mutual attachment - which leads to emotional and spiritual maturity as our identity and character are formed by our relationship with God.

Formation must read

This is a read and re-read book.
It’s becoming clear that the more I pursue wholeness and Christlikeness the more I realize how deep the brokenness must reach. I love the journey Dallas’ work invites me to, and Wilder brings a special perspective as he revisits this study of hesed and attachment. The forming continues.

Game changing, great overall performace

Jim Wilder and Dallas Willard will force you to not only think about yourself and the human person, but this book includes many immediately actionable steps to grow attachment to God individually and in community. Chapter five is when revolutionary begins to click.

I would have liked to hear Willard’s lectures somehow on the audio. Having the same narrator for Jim and Dallas broke the flow, and the narrator’s excellent book narration sometimes didn’t fit a sermon voicing.

I would recommend this for all people serious about personal spiritual formation, whether parents or pastors or otherwise. Listen to this book!

Attachment is Key

Wilder does a great job of fostering an understanding of the illumination that modern brain science provides to ancient spiritual principles. His focus on fast-brain connections and real attachment between people and with God resonated with my persona experience. A well-done and important book.

Life changing

Not the book, but Jesus! It just happens that after reading this book (Dallas Willard was the hook for me), I discovered The Life Model, including Joyful Journey, and all the wonderful Jesus followers who desire more than anything that the Lord “lift up the light of His countenance upon us”. Thanks to Jim Wilder et al and Audible for blessing us with this.

Wise and Practical

Jim Wilder doesn't excellent job of focusing on the significance of attachment love and the major correlation between the depth of our attachment love and the depth of our faith. he utilizes the tremendous work of Dallas Willard and creates practical solutions for a disassociated world.
