About this listen
Millions in stolen property, revolting sex crimes, and murder-for-hire were all in the mix for a Las Vegas police detective, as he toiled to take Sin City's most prolific criminal off the streets for good. Detective Bradley Nickell brings you the inside scoop on the investigation, arrest, and conviction of the most prolific repeat offender Las Vegas has ever known.
Daimon Monroe looked like an average guy, raising a family with his diffident schoolteacher girlfriend. But just below the surface, he was an accomplished thief with an uncontrollable lust for excess. His criminal mind had no bounds - he was capable of anything given the proper circumstances. You will be revolted by Monroe's amassed wealth through thievery; his plots to kill Detective Nickell, a judge, and a prosecutor; and the physical and sexual abuse to which Monroe subjected his daughters.

Early one morning in May, 1997, a young couple in the mountains of Colorado spotted a man dragging a body up a secluded trail. The man fled, leaving behind a bloody, dying woman. The investigation into the death of young street-walker Anita Paley would lead from that idyllic spot to the seamy underbelly of Denver and a world of prostitution, drug dealers, and violent criminals. Entertaining and Enthralling True Crime
What did you love best about Repeat Offender?
My favorite part of Repeat offender was the amount of thoroughness with which the story is presented.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The modus operandi of Monroe as he manages so many crimes over such a period of time, and the care with which his prosecutors handled the case.
Which scene was your favorite?
There weren't really any scenes I didn't enjoy, which resulted in a fairly even experience great at every turn.
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
The most interesting part of this book for me was the existence of a repeat offender program and how that group interacted with the rest of the law enforcement groups.
Any additional comments?
I received this for free in exchange for an honest review and found myself rather entertained, I definitely recommend others listen to this.

True Crime
What did you love best about Repeat Offender?
With non-fiction the story is what it is. This author obviously knew he had a good story to share and paired up with an excellent narrator, he came up with a winner. Because I work in the criminal justice field I had an appreciation for this story and the resources it took to bring this criminal to justice.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Detective Nickell. Even though Monroe's actions created countless victims, Nickell's perseverance, experience, intelligence, and compassion eliminated future victims and made the Las Vegas community a safer place.
What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?
Everything. Pierce was a perfect narrator for this story. He was convincing with a perfect pace and spot on inflection.
Any additional comments?
This book was provided by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an honest review.

Portrait of a sociopath
What did you love best about Repeat Offender?
The author did a really good job portraying a textbook sociopath. The career criminal was funny, smart, sort of likeable, self centered, entitled and grandiose. I'm a retired forensic psych nurse and the picture was very accurate.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
It needed more editing. At least a couple of hours could of been trimmed off. Also the author's religious beliefs and moral philosophies could of been trimmed down. as it was his personal beliefs were repeated over and over again. No problem to express his personal beliefs, but no over and over again.
Which character – as performed by Kevin Pierce – was your favorite?
The criminal Daimon Monroe he also did a superb job of performing the detective.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The apathy and compliance of of Tammy, Daimon's paramour, especially in regard to Daimon's abuse of their children.
Any additional comments?
“I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast dot come”Overall the book was an interesting and enjoyable listen, however it could of been edited more. It could of been shortened and the author's personal beliefs could of been stated once twice or even thrice, without being repeated over and over again. The author gave a excellent concrete portrayal of a sociopath.

Incredible and We'll Written
a very very well-written True Crime novel.
I believe the narrator was probably one of the best because I could tell the difference between characters and that makes a book more interesting!

Sin City SIN
While this is categorized as a true crime book (which it certainly is), it also has some of the aspects of a memoir. The author gives the facts of the case, and the events surrounding the investigation and trial objectively, but this is also a personal story, and the author also gives his own feelings and thought processes. In many ways, this personal touch makes this very interesting book unique. Granted, I would have preferred the story without the editorial comments, especially those involving the author’s religious beliefs, but, this is in the nature of a memoir …and these comments were seldom distracting.
The narrator was just about perfect for this book, and did an excellent job in all aspects of narration. His presentation was well paced, and with enough emotion to keep the book from becoming as dry as, say, a police report. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars, and the narrator 5 stars.

A little disappointed
The book centered primarily on the trial involving conspiracy of a couple of criminals. Every minute detail of the trial was explained and it got tedious to listen to. The author also tended to preach his opinion about the unfairness of the justice system. I was a little disappointed in the book.

A great view into a masterminded criminal
If you could sum up Repeat Offender in three words, what would they be?
Thought provoking detail
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Excellent ending and kudos to the prosecutors efforts to maintain contact of the offenders family, ultimately assisted in the offenders arrest and prosecution
Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, typical top shelf performance on the part of Mr. Pierce!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, the best part was hearing how the prosecutor was steadfast in his beliefs in our court system and his spirituality

Truth IS Stranger Than Fiction
As an early fan of LAPD Detective Joseph Wambaugh (The New Centurions, 1971), I had yet to come across another author of true crime who could keep me riveted with a captivating story...until now.
Las Vegas Police Detective Bradley Nickell, with co-author Warren Jamison, recounts the tenacious investigation and arrest of career criminal, Daimon Monroe, following with the court trials and multiple life sentences. I was fascinated by all the details from transcripts, frustrated by the audacity of the defendant (and the defense attorney) and relieved by the final outcome. I don't know which shocked me more-- the revelation of torture and sexual abuse of his own daughters or the conspiracy to kill Nickell, the judge and prosecuting attorney.
Narrator Kevin Pierce gave an exemplary performance, capturing the nuance of each character. (I'll definitely be looking for more of his narrations!)

Fascinating story but too long and detailed
Would you try another book from Bradley Nickell and Warren Jamison and/or Kevin Pierce?
I am not sure--it would depend on the topic.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
There was too much detail that did not add to the story. The story could have been more engaging if some of the court testimony had been left out. There was a lot of repetition that seemed unnecessary.
Also, Bradley Nickell was a bit heavy-handed with the morality stuff.
Which character – as performed by Kevin Pierce – was your favorite?
The wife of the career criminal. I really felt for her after she decided that her children and her life were more important than her lifestyle with her boyfriend.
Do you think Repeat Offender needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Probably not--it would seem repetitive even if it was another criminal.

An intriguing story
What made the experience of listening to Repeat Offender the most enjoyable?
Kevin Pierce is the best narrator I have heard by far, just having him read a book will make it that much better. For this particular book, the story and the character were so interesting. Edge of your seat
What did you like best about this story?
Just the whole thing from start to finish was captivating.
What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?
Amazing as always!
If you could give Repeat Offender a new subtitle, what would it be?
The story of an eccentric thief
