About this listen

Volume One includes four full-length novels:

Ever Yours, Annabelle: As a girl, Annabelle Huxley chased Robert Conrad with reckless abandon, and he always rescued her when she pushed too far - until the accident that cost him everything.

The Madness of Viscount Atherbourne: Victoria Lacey's life is perfect-perfectly boring. Surely no one suspects her secret longing for head-spinning passion. Except a dark stranger, on a terrace, at a ball where she should not be kissing a man she has just met.

The Truth About Cads and Dukes: Painfully shy Jane Huxley is in a most precarious position, thanks to dissolute charmer Colin Lacey's deceitful wager. Now, his brother, the icy Duke of Blackmore, must make it right, even if it means marrying her himself.

Desperately Seeking a Scoundrel: Tortured and hunted by a brutal criminal, Lord Colin Lacey is rescued from death's door by the stubborn, fetching Sarah Battersby. In return, she asks one small favor: Pretend to be her fiance. With danger nipping his heels, he knows it is wrong to want her, wrong to agree to her terms. But when has Colin Lacey ever done the sensible thing?

Contains mature themes.

These books were wonderful.

These books was so wonderful, but I have to say my favorite was the CAD book. The Duke and Jane were my absolute favorite. I would definitely recommend the boobs. The storyline click through all four books and continue beyond these four books. What annoys me is that people are putting down the narrator, if you can do this better than she could then by all means go ahead. It’s not an easy job. So let’s give credit where credit is due. If you don’t like narrations then just buy
a book and read it yourself. ..Stay bless everyone

New Author to Me.

I loved getting four books within one title. There are two more after this. Can't wait for the next set. Great introduction to a new author that I haven't read before.

Mixed feelings

I like all but the viscount story. Spoiler: He’s controlling and cruel to her and at one point she blames a woman for completing suicide. I almost DNF’d but I’m glad I pushed thru. You could skip that one and the rest make sense. The narrator had a weird way of pronouncing words and is super slow.

Don’t hesitate, listen

Do not be put off by the narrator reviews.

The first book is not her best, BUT, I thought she might not have hit her stride and I am so glad I stayed with it. She is wonderful, her characters are fully realized, and even the male voices are believable. That is very hard for a female narrator.

The author is very good also, great humor, brilliant use of language/vocabulary , no fluff. I listened to all 9 books and will keep them in my listen again collection.
So sorry to see it end.

omg the narrator

I originally said: I just started chapter 2 of the first book in this set of 4 books and I seriously don't know if I can even finish chapter 2 because of this narrator.

Update: I sped up the speed of the narrarator on the first book in this set to 1.15 and it was then bearable enough to finish it. Stories 2-3 had better narraration, though I kept the faster speed throughout.

The stories were good. I'm glad I found a way to get through them. I do plan to download any further books in this series right away.

I can't do it

I enjoyed the first story. I suffered through most of the first story until I read a review that gave me the idea to speed it up. That allowed me to finish it at 1.32 speed. I didn't get through the first chapter of the second book and gave up. It was partly due to the story, but mostly due to the narrator. It is not my intent to be rude, I just couldn't deal with her style.

Mediocre brain filler for rainy afternoon

Between occasional Bridgerton aspirations and frequent overdone intimate scenes, the narrator was enough to make my teeth grind. Stories were predictable dose of man meet woman, not suitable, family conflicts, hot passion love scenes followed by incredibly mindless actions by a supposedly intelligent heroine!! What?? Bad people could hurt me?? I’ll leave the safety provided by studly hero and give someone a chance to harm me. Totally annoying. Return imminent.

The compilation of the stories was a pleasure to get as a book.

These stories are sweet and keep you wanting to listen more. I really like Elisa Braden style and her dialogues are so funny. Loved the heroines, enchanting and strong even in difficult moments. The narration made it hard sometimes because the narrator entones almost everything the same, the danger parts and the romantic parts and all, it all sounds sometimes like she is reciting a poem in a tragic voice and it takes away from the natural beauty of the story. However, even with that, the dialogues are fun and the story is enchanting light romance that we all want when reading regency romances. Lovely. Will definitely be looking for more on this author.

EXCELLENT SERIES

This series of books follows each subsequent story with accuracy & flows easily. The characters were complex & real. Very well written. Narration is very good also.

Like Finding Buried Treasure

I am not sure how Elisa Braden has escaped my notice all these years. What a gem! Her writing style is like prose. Beautiful words strung together to create beautiful images on the wide screen in my mind. I’m an avid listener of historical romance and Elisa’s work is definitely a cut above most. I normally cringe and fast forward through the sex scenes because they are clumsy and just way too vulgar and not pretty. Elisa sparingly uses those scenes to their best advantage and approaches them with romance in mind. It’s the difference between an opera and smut, fast food and cuisine.

People have left negative remarks about the narrator, but had they hung in there with her, they would have noticed her performance is very deliberate and sophisticated. Mary Sarah uses her vocal talent to create a certain atmosphere and elicits targeted emotions with a voice that tinkles like wind chimes. Just relax and settle into it. She knows what she is doing, and soon enough, she carries you away on silvery wings to another place.

I totally scored on the bundle of Books 1-4 when it was offered in Plus. So glad it was. I would probably not have picked it up for a credit otherwise and would have missed out on discovering such a gifted author with a seamless narrator and production. I am a newly minted fan.
