Publisher's summary

War is good for business...and business is about to boom.

General Keith Brennan would rather face an army with his trusty rifle than attend another state dinner. When the president of the solar system is assassinated on Mars, Brennan is the obvious choice to investigate. If he comes up with the wrong answer, though, his career will be over.

However, duty is never so simple. When the investigation uncovers a trail of corruption and a conspiracy on a system-wide scale, Brennan’s career is the least of his worries.

With Earth and Mars on the brink of a shooting war and forces behind the scenes determined to push them over the edge, only Marine General Keith Brennan can stop the slaughter before it’s too late. Unless, of course, it already is....

Revolution is the first in a new gritty sci-fi saga with enemies at every turn. Grab your rifle, pick your side, and join the revolution now!

"A perfect, action-packed, and adrenaline-inducing novel." (Reader's Favorite)

"The heart of classic science fiction in a fast-paced modern sci-fi thriller!" (Rachel Aukes, best-selling author of Black Sheep)

"A densely plotted and riveting futuristic thriller." (Kirkus Reviews)

Critic reviews

"A quintet of talented narrators performs the epic beginning to a sci-fi series simmering with political intrigue.... Dion Graham dynamically portrays Brennan, capturing his depth of character; he's a rigid military officer who is awkward in social situations. All the narrators bring uniqueness to their sections, with Zeller being a standout for her clarity and engaging pacing. A vibrant cast of voices complements a stellar start to this series." Freedom always has sacrifices

Received a a review copy (2021); also received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Narrated by Dion Graham, Emily Woo Zeller, Tim Gerard Reynolds, Lauren Fortgang and Chris Ciulla, delivers an interwoven performance that elevates this complex story full morally personalities and agendas. It was supposed to be a day of celebration... Mars earning its own freedom, an assassination changes everything and throwing the structure of power into chaos. General Keith Brennan is out at crossroads of keeping things from exploding... nothing will be the same ever again. Haunting and action packed... worthy of your time. Recommended.

Intriguing & Complicated

This was my first experience with James Fox's work, and it was very absorbing. Once the audiobook started, I was so captivated by the story, that I listened to it within two days. The characters were sophisticated and complex. The political machinations were convoluted and tricky. This story did end on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait for the next book. This was my first experience with several narrators, and it made the experience very entertaining. All the narrators, Dion Graham, Emily Woo Zeller, Tim Gerard Reynolds, Lauren Fortgang, and Chris Ciulla were great, and their combined performances enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Great Set Up

This is a well done book! It set up a great story and a glimmer of the story to come. I wish that I hadn't started the series until more books were out. There are a lot of characters and details to keep straight and I might have to listen to book 1 again before I listen to book 2.

Stellar Cast Elevates a Thrilling Sci-Fi Adventure

I just finished listening to "Revolution" by James Fox, and I must say, both the top-notch narration and gripping story left me captivated. The book masterfully combines political intrigue, thrilling action, and unexpected twists that keep you on the edge of your seat.

Initially, I was hesitant to try this book since I usually don't enjoy multiple narrators. Inconsistencies in pronunciation, enthusiasm, and tone often detract from the experience. However, I'm glad I gave it a chance; this stellar cast seamlessly delivered a smooth performance throughout the chapters.

Dion Graham's portrayal of Brennan is particularly well done, and you can really feel him embracing the character. Brennan is a refreshing departure from the standard tough-and-confident protagonist. He's a no-nonsense military man but also socially awkward, adding depth to his character.

Emily Woo Zeller also delivered an excellent narration. This was my first time listening to her work, and I'm eager to explore other books she's narrated. She brought the characters to life with clarity in her tone and pacing. The rest of the cast deserves praise as well; their performances were equally impressive.

The story is engaging, unfolding in a space-opera-esque format where most characters have their own storylines with occasional crossovers. As the tension builds towards the end, the characters' paths start to converge, hinting at more excitement in the next book. Although the pacing can be slow at times, particularly at the beginning, it's well worth it once the story picks up. The conclusion provides a satisfying payoff, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Overall, "Revolution" offers a great cast, a solid story, and a listening experience well worth your time.

Great narration!

Having read this book when it first came out I was hesitant to listen to the audiobook since I'm picky about narrators as it is. To my delight the voices are almost spot on to what I imagined while reading. Aside from the narration, it's a fun suspenseful story with interesting characters. I can't wait to read the next one!

This book made me angry...

...when they reached the last chapter, and I realized I was going to have to go through the painful process of waiting for Book 2. I was literally like, "WHAT?!"

All the narrators were mesmerizing, and coupling their amazing performances with a gripping and epic tale was terrific. One of the few books where I feel like I'm going to miss the characters.

Can't recommend highly enough. Really great storytelling.
