About this listen

Schoolteacher Konrad Diamond falls afoul of cattle baron Ernst Haeckel. Rather than invite more trouble, Diamond and his sister Lila light out for new pastures. But the vindictive Haeckel puts a price on Diamond’s head, and the bounty hunters are coming for him. The teacher and his sister fall in with Gusty Gillespie, a battle-scarred bruiser, and then fate throws the trio into the path of Jacob Millard, who is on a rescue mission for a young girl kidnapped from his town.

Konrad, Lila, and Gusty try to persuade him. It is a suicidal enterprise. But what the hell! They say blood is thicker than water. The group of four wade through a crimson tide as they ride the dark trail and do battle with bounty hunters, Cheyenne warriors, crooked lawmen, and outlaws. No one can foretell which of them will survive, if any.

Really well done!

This is a fantastic western in the tradition of Louis L'Amour and Max Brand. Great story with wonderful characters, and the narration was terrific.

Great western story

This is an enjoyable, action filled western story, set after the civil war. A school teacher, his sister, a young man looking for his kidnapped friend, and a scarred ex-soldier, form a friendship as they help each other fight the bad guys. The narrator, J Scott Bennett’s voice fits this story so well. He gave the characters their own voice and made you feel like you were in a western. This is a well written, enjoyable story and I would happily listen to others by this author.

Enjoyable Western

Ride the Dark Trail
By: Philip McCormac
Narrated by: J. Scott Bennett

4 STARS

This is a great western book, set after the Civil War. A school teacher tangles with a cattle baron that sends bounty hunters after him and his sister. The action picks up with the other characters they meet up with. With everyone they have to battle, will anyone be left alive? A very enjoyable listen.

The narration was done by J. Scott Bennett. He has the voice that goes well with this genre.
