You thought you knew him. You were dead wrong.

Carver Young dreams of becoming a detective, despite growing up in an orphanage with only crime novels to encourage him. But when he is adopted by Detective Hawking of the world famous Pinkerton Agency, Carver is given not only the chance to find his biological father, he finds himself smack in the middle of a real life investigation: tracking down a vicious serial killer who has thrown New York City into utter panic.

When the case begins to unfold, however, it's worse than he could have ever imagined, and his loyalty to Mr. Hawking and the Pinkertons comes into question. As the body count rises and the investigation becomes dire, Carver must decide where his true loyalty lies. Full of whip-smart dialogue, kid-friendly gadgets, and featuring a then New York City Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt, Ripper challenges everything you thought you knew about the world's most famous serial killer.

Excellent story premise, but poor execution and lethargic pacing

IThis was a great story concept. It had brilliant characters and it would’ve had an amazing plot twist and climax if it were not done so lethargic in many ways there was far too much plot convenience three orphans have to get adopted by three different people and all of them intersect in a huge city like New York. That makes absolutely no sense. there are some moments that just force a story. It doesn’t build an element of suspense. I question many things that carver does. He doesn’t act like a detective. He’s not composed immature. He’s high strong and he’s so emotional. He is probably my least favorite in this whole book because he could prevent a lot of things from happening. also not only him Mr. Hawkins is very interesting as a character, but from the start of the book from his appearance, I figured that he was Jack the Ripper because the story gave me a Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde vibe not only that the way he acted was always suspicious and it’s crazy that for Carver to be such an amazing young detective he couldn’t even get that so I don’t really understand that either aside from that everything was perfect. The setting the mannerisms the world building. I just wish it were executed in a better fashion. I still would read this again, but so many moments are wasted. I also want to state. I don’t like the part about romance, why do we have to talk about, these ideas of romance there why are you describing to me with somebody looks like an a suit or a dress that’s a bit inappropriate in my opinion I can see if this was a young kids book but it’s not never it was solid
