Publisher's summary

The United States is gone; in its place is a broken country struggling to survive. A lost microchip can turn the US back into the superpower it once was. Every year, racers head out into the desert to find the microchip, but they never return.

This year, Troy is going to change all that. He plans to win the Rotham Race.

Finding the microchip, though, might not be all the citizens think. Government secrets surround the race, and the one to win doesn’t receive just fame and glory. He or she gets death.

Intense

In the future, the United States is gone, a broken country left in its wake. There is one microchip out in the desert that has the power of restoring the U.S. to its former glory. It’s for this reason that racers go out to the desert in search of it every year. Troy is determined to be the one to find it. Unfortunately for him, the winner doesn’t get fame. They get death.

This was an intense quick listen. I liked Troy. He had a solid background, and I hoped he would grow character-wise in the story to be the hero that he could be. A few of the other characters stood out as well.

I think this story might’ve worked a bit better if it was longer so some of the details were better fleshed out. There were a few areas that I noted that contradicted one another, and I think more details would’ve explained/or cleared these issues up.

I enjoyed the story nonetheless.

Narration was well done.

Love story?

I wasn't sure if this was a love story or an action story. As an action story, it lacked excitement and seemed to be not much of a love story. It wasn't a terrible story, just not what I expected.

really amazing book

the story line is great. this author got me into steampunk with this book and others she written. really talented writer.

the narrator is really good. keeps you interested in the story. has a very soothing voice. I've listen to this book about 8 times. her voice is calming and after a few chapters I'm ready to fall asleep.

I highly recommend this book. a must read and listen and both.

Liked it but issues

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. I’m curious where the story is going. Some things seem to contradict each other or are out of the blue. Not really spoilers but beware.. will give you more info about the book.
-The one to win the race gets death- no he didn’t.
-Barbie finds something at a very convenient time.
-She has no clue who her parents truly are or that the microchip exists yet she knows to give Troy an heirloom?
-The chip is to be kept out of the hand of the east people but it seems to be a petty reason.
-In a desolate area, where is all the prize money supposed to come from?
The book ends very abruptly and unexpectedly.
Thing is, I still enjoyed the story. There’s potential. I really want to listen to the next one to see if things iron out a bit and to find out the point behind the chip.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Almond Eastland ) and I would listen to another. I think she does a good job narrating this book. She more performs than reads the book. Her characters are distinguishable.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing. Audiobook boom rated it for violence and language but it’s not violent and I don’t recall any swearing.

Great story

I really enjoyed this. Parts did feel a bit rushed. The story could have been a lot longer. I’d have liked more of Barbies adventure finding Troy after the race. I want to know what happens after this story ends. Will there be a sequel. I’m not trying to give anything away. I was surprised Troy didn’t get taken advantage of by some of the other riders. Also the idea of it seemed odd. The questions some asked about why is the government willing to sacrifice its citizens but not military were very legit. You’d think it would have given more people pause before they ran off to rush their lives. I continued to want to know more.
It was a good clean book and I can see kids as young as 12 reading it. Although that would be up to the parent. No sex described but implied. Sorry, it’s been a hard month for me since I finished this one and because of that I forgot to review it when it was fresh in my mind.
This was the first book I’ve read by Jordan but I will definitely be looking for more.
Narration by Amanda Eastland was excellent.

Great quick read

Rotham Race was a great read by Jordan Elizabeth. The United States is gone but in it's place is a broken country that's struggling to survive. There is a microchip that is lost and racers go to find it but never return. The microchip could bring the US back to the superpower that it once was. Troy plans on being the only racer to ever return with the microchip. Unfortunately there is no fame and glory with finding the chip, the racer gets death. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by Jordan Elizabeth.

Great Read

This story is set in a post apocalyptic world and is very intriguing. The 2 young characters are well filled out and I found myself rooting for them to succeed. I hope that this is the beginning to a series!
