Publisher's summary

An authorized agent again, Charlie Muffin must thwart an assassination attempt that could turn the tides of the Cold War

It could be the most sensational defection of all time. The head of the Russian KGB’s cipher section comes with every code, every plot, every secret. But his most startling disclosure of all is that the Russians are planning a shocking assassination.

But the defector doesn’t know who. Or where. Or how. Or when. All Charlie knows is that he must stop the murder from happening - without being marked for death himself.

It keeps you guessing, I loved it

It’s such a labyrinth of painstakingly acquiring the whole picture that you feel like you’re actually on the case. Nothing is easy for Charlie Muffin. Discovering clues, hints and slowly getting the whole picture is what this book does beautifully.
I was sure I had listened to this one in the series. Imagine my delight at finding this treasure.

Way to go Charlie

Another great story in the Muffin series. Could see this one made into a move, has all the world characters; KGB, CIA, MI, PLO, Israel.

Where Has this Character Been Hiding

Again, Freemantle has hit a home run, writing clearly and SIMPLY about the "complex" agent Charlie Muffin. I enjoy the "challenges" that plague him in every book, from certain directors in his department to animosity from other spy groups, to his feet.
One concern is the way this book ended. It makes me wonder if this author put his own personal politics into the writing and if he'll continue to do so, but to a much greater extent in future novels.
As an author myself, I accept that novels are to some extent autobiographical, but I hope the following books don't expand upon the point this one did at the end.
I don't read novels to listen to someone tell me about their politics. I have left authors because of that. Again, this has NOT occurred in this book. I'm just hoping it doesn't in future books in this series.
There's only one way to find out though! So I need to buy the next one!
Again, i am enjoying this series GREATLY.
