About this listen

It’s a good thing Gabe Bristow lives and breathes the Navy SEAL credo, “the only easy day was yesterday”, because today, his life is unrecognizable. When his prestigious career comes to a crashing halt, he’s left with a bum leg and few prospects for employment that don’t include a desk.

That is, until he’s offered the chance to command a private hostage-rescue team and free a wealthy American businessman from Colombian paramilitary rebels. It seems like a good deal - until he meets his new team: a drunk Cajun linguist, a boy-genius CIA threat analyst, an FBI negotiator with mob ties, a cowboy medic, and an EOD expert as volatile as the bombs he defuses. Oh, and who could forget the sexy, frustratingly impulsive Audrey Van Amee? She’s determined to help rescue her brother - or drive Gabe crazy. Whichever comes first.

As the death toll rises, Gabe’s team of delinquents must figure out how to work together long enough to save the day. Or, at least, not get themselves killed. Because Gabe’s finally found something worth living for, and God help him if he can’t bring her brother back alive.

Good story!

This is the first time I’ve read a book by this author and won’t be my last. I really liked the SEAL team characters. Definitely some funny moments on how they interact with one another. The narrator did well in changing his voice. I always like a story which has a twist or something you don’t expect. This story delivers just that. I recommend!

Great Start to a Series!

I really enjoyed this book, and I am super excited to read/listen to the other books in the series. I loved the author's character development. I really liked the characters, and I appreciated that they are all flawed in some way, it makes them more real and easier to relate to. I enjoyed the storyline, it gave me the right amount of romance and action, and it did not require that I suspend reality. I also really enjoyed Stephen Borne's narration, I thought he handled the female voices well, he managed to make them sound a bit feminine without being ridiculous and cringe-worthy to listen to. While this book is a stand-alone and does not leave any loose ends for the main characters, I got enough of an introduction to the other HORNETs that I am looking forward to continuing with the series.

Entertaining

This was an easy book to listen to. Predictable with still an edge. Romantic and funny in places. Very entertaining. I would recommend if you want something easy and satisfying to listen to. The narrator did a great job!

great start to the series

(Gabe & Audrey): TRIGGERS: retired military, TBI, hostage situations, ransom, terrorists, extreme violence. So, while this book was a little slow starting I really liked it. It was a great start to the series. Audrey's billionaire brother is a contractor for the military. He's taken hostage while on a Skype chat with her. Gabe has just retired from the Navy SEALs and is thinking "now what?" One of his friends approaches him about becoming a mercenary and tells him about a case. They line up their team and head out to look for Audrey's brother. This story has a lot going on especially out in the jungle of Bogota. Audrey manages to talk her way into going with Gabe to search and they get caught up in a mess themselves. They also manage to fall for the chemistry building between them. I'm thinking to myself "there's a time and a place and neither is right now" 🤣. And let me tell you… Audrey is a little horn dog. This is a nice imaginative look at what mercenaries may really do. I liked it.

really liked it

It's a well-balanced story and the changing perspectives of characters is done smoothly and with good reason.
