About this listen

SLAY is the electrifying debut of a five-book series starring enigmatic anti-hero Lincoln Franks.

For millennia, a secret society known as the Bastion has protected mankind from the horrors of the Underskin—malevolent forces lurking unseen in civilization's shadows. Monsters, demons, spirits, lawyers, and Fortune-500 CEOs, the Underskin's fiends pray upon the weak.

When these creatures spill blood, it falls upon the rixators—the Bastion's elite warriors—to cut them down. Armed with ancient relics and modern weaponry, altruistic rixators hold the line against chaos. But a rixator's sworn oath of poverty grinds against Lincoln's life.

Faced with providing for his agoraphobic former partner, who was crippled by a monster, his father, whose life as a rixator left him broke and broken in an old folk's home, and his son who is imprisoned in a land of nightmares, Lincoln's got bills to pay.

Vow of poverty be damned—it's time to cut off some heads, collect bounties, and bring home the bacon.

Critic reviews

"The Witcher meets THE BOYS. Filled with irreverent humor and gleeful bloodshed. Highly recommended!" (Jennifer Brody, author of STAR WARS Stories of Jedi and Sith and A Sacrifice of Blood and Stars)

"Monsters, bastards, and things that go bump in the night don't stand a chance when the ruthless Man in Gray comes gunning for them. SLAY blasts along with Sigler's prose coming at you as hard and precise as the Man himself. Packed with action, clever ideas, and memorable characters this is Sigler at his very best." (Richard Kadrey, author of Sandman Slim and The Everything Box)

FANTASTIC HIGH BROW MODERN FANTASY

Scott Sigler is... for all intent and purposes, a modern day bard. his story telling abilities are second to none. His chops run the gamut, from futuristic space/sports sci-fi, genetic mutation sci-fi, straight monster horror, and now high fantasy meets seedy, dangerous high stakes underbelly stuff.

The man in Gray is a fantastic character, full of depth, and the supporting characters are excellent. Sigler's narrative abilities are showcased once again as well, with each character having a unique voice. He's just fantastic. I can't wait for the rest of this series!

A Must Listen!!

Man this book has everything that I love: violence, comedy, good story telling, and adult themes lol. It only took me 2 days to complete the book because it was so entertaining. Scott Sigler is my favorite author because of the crazy, interesting worlds and characters that he creates. The ending had me sad that I have to wait for the next book. Do yourself a favor and go listen!

Classic Sigler

(3.75 Stars)

This was classic Sigler, and narrated by the author. It was fun, light reading. It has a unique take on magic in the real world that I really liked. The characters are well developed and the world is familiar.

It is campy, horror(ish), action filled, and full of puns, innuendos, and double entendres.

A new series and another home run for Sigler

As a fan of Sigler’s other work I was very interested in the first book of a new series. As usual with his books, you’re immediately drawn in with the action and then want to stick around for the multi-dimensional characters and a story that keeps you guessing right up to the last page.

Urban fantasy with a vengeance

It's modern urban fantasy that isn't shy about violence, adult language, and consequences. The Man in Gray knows how to kill monsters, but getting his life on track becomes a victim of his own self-destructive impulses. It makes Lincoln have more depth and feel more real.

Slay book 1 lays a solid foundation for the planned series, sprinkled with puzzle pieces I'm almost positive Scott is going to pick up later for some major payoff, because it's how he writes stories.

The characters are entertaining and interact in interesting ways, but the highlight is always the action scenes. Nobody writes an action scene like Scott. This book is action packed, and each one is more cinematic than the last, always culminating in a very satisfying climax.

Gritty Magic

This story is a ton of fun. I’ve never been a big magic person, but it finally clicked for me with this story!
