About this listen

The guardians, the shadowy heroes of the top-secret program designed to protect members of the most elite government organizations, are being hunted down one by one. There is a single explanation: a traitor must be embedded somewhere in their midst. But if they themselves are the target, who will protect them?

CIA operative Renee Niezen has heard tales of the guardians, though she’s never really believed in their existence - until she is approached by Charlotte, an old friend who desperately needs her help to stop the systematic destruction of the guardian program. Renee accepts the plea for assistance, but not everyone is thrilled to have her on the team. Kade - one of the last guardians standing - is unimpressed with Renee’s qualifications and turns instead to the legendary Saint Squad for help. But when Renee is caught in the crosshairs, Kade must set aside his antagonism for the woman in order to protect her.

Their grudging alliance soon develops into much more - but before the pair can examine their feelings, their investigation takes a dramatic twist. With lives on the line, Renee and Kade must use their spy training at every turn as they draw dangerously close to the shocking truth.

Good AND clean!

I like that this is clean of curse words and bedroom scenes, but still keeping my attention and wondering what would happen next. Recommend!

Mismatched narrator??

Great, fun story. Would be great if Covenant could get some more variety in their narrators. Luone does a fine job. Her pacing is great, she’s capturing the intensity without being melodramatic. Enunciation and diction are on point (except for the minor “forward” sounds like “foe-ward”). She just sounds much older than the 20-something’s she’s portraying. And you can tell she knows this. Then because she’s compensating to sound younger, she’s over compensating for older women voicing, always utilizing the overly indulgent, sugary, grandmotherly tone. Men always sound angry, stern, though voicing men is hard. This is a consistent thing with Luone as well. I’ve listened to other books she’s narrated and this stood out to me prior to listening this audiobook. In fact, it almost deterred me from purchasing this audiobook but I had a road trip coming up and needed a listen and wanted to continue from the first book, Fail Safe. Previous narrator for first book in the series was better suited.

Nice story

I liked the first audio narrator better overall. This narrator was ok except for one of the Saint Squad charters, which was truly hard to listen to. The story itself was solid and good.

Ok story but predictable

The story was ok. It builds off of her last book. It’s kind of a romantic suspense action novel. I didn’t think the performance was very good... her voice was somewhat flat, especially with the male characters, almost mechanical. I especially didn’t like the accents she tried to use.
One note to the publisher, get someone else to introduce the book and give publishing details at the end. That guy is way too sappy and drippy.

Wild ride to the Safe House.

I felt the story was very believable. This narrator is getting better with different voices and the author is growing quite a neighborhood of the Saint Squad. I can’t wait for the next adventure.

Great book, Poor Narration

I really loved the Narrator of the first book. This narrator was hard for me to listen to. It impacted my overall experience with the book. I loved the story. I love that it doesn’t have a lot of swearing and it’s a clean read. Great book!
