About this listen

Plunging under the cold ocean surface, her long blonde hair drags in the current, and she frantically kicks toward the light. With her arms and legs tied, she is helpless. As water fills her lungs, she has just one regret. She never told anyone about her date.

On a lonely stretch of coast at daybreak in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Detective Casey White is shocked to find the drowned body of a much-loved local woman, Ann Choplin, her beautiful face covered with specks of sand. The green and white rope binding her wrists reveals the terrifying truth that this innocent mother’s death was no accident.

With the incoming tide flooding the scene and swallowing all evidence, Casey’s team has nowhere to turn...but it’s Casey who realizes this beach will be devastatingly familiar to her partner, ex-sheriff Jericho Flynn. His wife was found murdered here years ago, thrown into the ocean alive just like Ann. But the twisted and jealous woman guilty of that crime has been in prison for years.

Days later, another woman is found drowned on the same beach, her wrists tied. Casey fears a copycat killer is on the loose, playing a deadly game with Jericho by digging up the horrors of his past.

Certain that finding a link between these women will crack the case, Casey works through the night digging into their lives and finds an old photo of the two victims at school together, smiling in their cheerleader uniforms. But cold betrayal floods Casey as she sees Jericho in the background. She’d thought it was safe to let him into her life, but he never once mentioned he knew the victims. What other secrets is he hiding?

When a coil of green and white rope is found in his garage, Casey’s whole team is convinced that the mounting evidence is stacked against Jericho. But with Casey’s instincts screaming that Jericho could never hurt anyone, it will mean risking her own career - and her life - to clear his name. If she’s wrong, she is placing her trust in a killer...but if she’s right, more innocent women are in terrible danger.

Fans of Robert Dugoni, Kendra Elliot, and Rachel Caine will be addicted.

Kept me very caught up!

Liked, a gripping who done it crime. Just when I thought I had it figured out my theory was ripped from my thoughts! Then at the end I felt dread very little hope for Cassie to find her daughter and have a happy life.

Just when you think you know....

...you don't. I was on the edge of my seat with this installment of the Detective Casey White series. Loved the plot and the crazy twists and turns. Moving right to book #4! Enjoyed the narration as usual. Fantastic!

Couldn't stop listening

I loved this book. I am a Casey White fan through and through and this book did not disappoint. Loved the twists thrown in so you are kept off kilter at all times....

My only complaint is I need book 4 NOW.

This is a gripping series

I think Patricia Rodriguez is a great narrator, does an amazing job at punctuation when needed. The story line will have you wanting more, which I do.

High school never ends

Ever wonder what happened to those kids in the “in” group in high school? It ain’t pretty. Murthy’s law is on full display in this book. Our cartoon heroine experiences a multitude of near death experiences while saddled with an emotionally unstable boyfriend. She tends to his emotions blaming herself for his anger and bad decisions. People are lost, people are found, International news is made. And the world’s first female serial killer is released from prison. She’s supposed to be on the level of a Jeffrey Dahmer. Suspend a whole lot of disbelief all ye who enter this book.

I almost returned the book....*spoilers*

The story skipped quite a bit from book 2 to 3 and never quite ccaught up (her daughter). The book lagged and lulled and I almost returned it unti the ending when it snagged my attention.

There are several things that did not make sense *spoilers* like the blood type not being available, taking so long to find the prison connection, a DA believing a junior detective without talking to a senior one, ect. I struggled with the lack of flow.

I was DEEPLY troubled ***BIG spoiler*** by the fact that they never DNA tested her daughter.

Once again, I struggled with the narrator. She seems to want to say certain words with a sultry tone and it is off-putting. It truly sounds like she is reading a romance novel.

The narrator is the best part.

This could really be a great series but there’s so much details left out. So much information that is needed but not given. Important things that help give the story life are just skipped over. Especially at the beginning when her daughter is there. Most parts happen too quickly and I’m left wondering how did that happen? Casey is infuriating at some points. Simple things that most every human with common sense would do, she doesn’t. Then we have to hear about her fear of how she’s hurting her relationship but it all could have been avoided. The details we need for important situations are left out and instead details about how Casey is feeling is too much. I hope that makes sense.
I really do like Patricia Rodriquez as the narrator, she’s one of my favorites. EDIT: absolutely worth finishing the whole series. They include more details and I really enjoyed them all!
