About this listen

Evil lurks below the surface.

Thirty years ago, the town of Peace Falls was flooded to build a hydroelectric dam. To this day, its ruins remain below the surface of Chapel Lake—including the church, miraculously undamaged after all these years, its steeple visible above the water.

When his younger sister's body is found washed up on the shore, Owen Saddler follows in her footsteps to the cabin she'd rented on Chapel Lake, diving among the ruins below the surface.

Soon he's caught up in a decades-old mystery of the religious mania that divided the town in the late-'70s, and the sudden disappearance of Reverend Crouch and several of his parishioners—a mystery the citizens of Chapel Lake had hoped would stay submerged beneath the water, in the ghost town below.

Immersive and unsettling

This felt like reading an uncovered, lost book from one of the greats like King or McCammon. Strongly character-driven, immersive, expertly-paced, with a mounting sense of mystery throughout and satisfying conclusion.

intense and full of twists!

This book was everything I want to read. Checked all my boxes. Evoked all my emotions. Pulled me under & didn't let me come up for air.

If you love a good ghost story, this is the book. If you love cults and religious horror, this is the book. If you love to feel things and be connected to the characters, this is the book.

This book played out like a movie in my head which doesn't happen often for me. I felt like I was there. I could feel the characters emotions, their trauma, their fears.... I could smell the lake. I could feel the suffocation of certain scenarios. I could hear the sounds the house made at night. I was so invested in the mystery from the first chapter to the very last page. I love to unravel pieces of the bigger mystery leading to something huge. I love that gathering the information throughout the story. I love that wow factor when it all comes together so flawlessly.

Find the tweasure for yourself in Salvage..

Salvage

I went in blind, expecting a ghost story - as listed in the title. This story grew to be so much more than that! I’ve had the book for sometime on my TBR pile. Listening to the story elevated the experience. Highly recommended.

A Dark and Immersive Horror Experience

I want to start by thanking Joe Hemple for providing an audio code for this book. Duncan Ralston has quickly become a must-buy author for me, and Salvage is yet another example of why his work stands out in the indie horror scene. While I still have a backlog of his books to get through, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to dive into this one—and I’m glad I did.

Owen has always feared water, and after losing his sister to a mysterious drowning in a small town where he was born, his worst nightmares become reality. But something about her death doesn’t add up. As Owen delves into the mystery surrounding the lake, he is forced to confront his deepest fears and uncover the truth lurking beneath the surface.

Blending mystery, supernatural horror, and themes of grief, Salvage is a gripping and unsettling read for any horror fan. Ralson’s writing is masterfully detailed, drawing readers into an atmosphere thick with tension and dread. He has a knack for pacing, gradually building suspense before delivering on every eerie promise he sets up.

The audiobook narration by Sean Walpole was strong, bringing the story and characters to life with emotion and intensity. The only minor drawback was that some of the character voices sounded similar, which made it difficult at times to distinguish between them. However, this may be more of a personal preference than a flaw in the performance.

Overall, Salvage is a chilling and well-executed horror novel that translates effectively into audiobook format. If you enjoy dark, immersive stories with a supernatural edge, this is one you won’t want to miss.
