I couldn't stop! Here again the story line is very intriguing! I'm going to get the next 2 books to finish it up. Can't wait. I hope it has a good ending!

As expected, Scott Brick does a great job pulling you in to the author's world and bringing the characters to life. The premise around this book revolves around life on post-apocalyptic planet, and a horrible menace that threatens the colonists. The main character Neena and her family are likeable and relatable, so that you can almost picture yourself in the barren desert alongside them.

T.W. Piperbrook does a great job at setting the stage in these first two books. Getting them in a publisher's pack is a bonus. I'll definitely be picking up the next in series.

Great world-building and excellent twists

Great cliffhanger. Engaging characters, appropriately flawed. Good plot movement. Didn't make me have to remember a bunch of new words or names for the setting - much appreciated. I am looking forward to book 3.

There is nothing original about the planet they're on, it's a blatant copy of Arrakis in the book Dune. Physics defying, leaping sand worms and all. An inbred colony(not even 2000 people) from Earth, that after hundreds of years have forgoten 100% of everything they knew and are now a stone age people, non-stop drama ensues. Eventually several dozen do with a single crossbow and spears what their ancestors with modern weaponry were unable to. Complete nonsense.

My boyfriend and I both liked this and plan to use my next credit for the next book. It got a little confusing at times but never boring.

Fast paced action

Frustrating story. Good bones, good ideas, good use of language and vocabulary. Good editing. But such frustrating flow. Maybe meant as in-depth look at bullying and adversity compounded by mismanagement by authority figures? Because that shone through more than the fiction/sci-fi of the story. I’m writing this at 80% of the story of this book, so take it with a grain of salt, maybe there’s some monumental payoff that comes in at the end to make up for it…? I suppose I have a personal issue with manufactured drama overshadowing actual story and plot. If you don’t have issues with that, and enjoy that kind of a rollercoaster ride, then have at it, this will be a fun book. Some readers may compare it to Dune. I disagree. It may be a desert planet with monsters but that’s where the comparison ends. This is geared towards a YA crowd, while in my opinion, the Dune series is more complex, more of an all ages kind of thing.

This was an enjoyable listen, Scott Brick is always a great reader.
The creature is very similar to the Sand worms in the Dune Series but still a good story.
