Publisher's summary

Missing his dominant hand and half his face covered in scars, Miguel Ruiz can kiss his dreams of a happy future goodbye. He resigns himself to a life of servitude in a badly run club until one day, a tattoo artist in a random bar sees both talent and a future in the scarred artist. He makes an offer Miguel would be a fool to turn down, and Miguel decides it’s finally time to start living for himself, even with the 10 tons of baggage he’s carrying on his shoulders.

If anyone in the world can understand secrets, it’s Amit Baqri. Growing up bisexual, Deaf, and femme in a conservative Muslim family, Amit keeps his true self close to his chest. He’s spent most of his life conforming to others from the way he communicates to the way he presents himself to others, but the weight of it all is starting to crush him. He understands his familial obligations - taking care of his mother is his top priority, and his sisters are second. But when Amit sets eyes on the gorgeous tattoo artist with one hand and a waterfall of scars, his life is suddenly turned upside down.

Will Amit and Miguel find a way to shed the weight of their pasts to be happy together, or will assumptions and expectations leave them forever trapped in a closet of their own making?

Scarification is the sixth and final book of the Irons and Works series, and contains no cheating with an HEA.

Excellent

Amit finally gets his story! A character that is integral to the series, Amit is one of those that we already love. His life is full of complications and on top of being in the closet with his family, having to live as a hearing person even though he is mostly deaf, he struggles with personal shame over his bone deep desire to be fem or show that side to even his closest friends. Miguel is a seriously cool character- grew up in a biker gang, burned and crushed in a house fire, treated like crap his whole life, but then gets a second chance to see himself differently. This book is excellent because while there are moments of self pity and shame, the characters overcome hurdles by relying on their own selves. They take the love and acceptance from others, but don’t use it as a crutch. There are multiple ups and downs in this book, seriously surprising twists, and each character has their own unique struggles. A very interesting and satisfying story! Logan Anare did a good job narrating.

Love Amit and Miguel!

I love this series and Amit and Miguel are definitely two of my favorite characters within it. I like the diversity, I like that it’s not two generic white dudes. I love the lace and makeup and ways Amit expresses himself, and I love the tattoos. The world this book is set in is vast - almost too much. If I had one critique, it would be that I think the two MCs spend too much time with all the (very well fleshed out) side characters and not enough time with each other. I wish I had more undivided Amit/Miguel time, but I do like getting glimpses of characters from the other books and seeing how they’re doing.

This narrator is phenomenal, he has a very calm, soothing voice. I didn’t gel with one of the previous narrations for this series, but I could listen to Logan Anare forever!

I had the pleasure of reading and listening, boy oh boy!!! It was phenomenal! I’m a sucker for lace so I literally was in book heaven. The pain the love the courage the steaminess was off the charts. The audio narrative was so enticing with so much character. The story was breathtaking and audio was amazing!!!! E.M Lindsey I’m addicted to your amazing works of art!!!!

fantastic story and narration!

This was everything!! I had previously read the story when it first released. But listening to it was so much more! I seriously loved Gabriel and Amit. They both had so many complications in their past that continued into their present. The narrator gave Gabriel and Amit such depth. He did a fantastic job with the vocalization of all the characters. Really all the characters from the whole series that played a role in this story, each had clear definition. This was my first story by Logan Anare. I will definitely be looking for more by him.

fun contemporary romance

I read the book before listening to the audiobook. previously I had thought that the story was good but the ending was a little rushed and didn't quite fit. on the relisten I've decided that it's a satisfying ending just not what I wanted. than said, I really love Amit and Miguel, they're both dealing with complicated lives so the plot does not wholey center on them. but that doesn't stop from enjoying their striy and getting to see old friends from previous books
