Over 15 stories!

Let me start off by saying that Duncan Galloway's narration is absolutely top notch! I mainly listen to Sci-Fi/Fantasy audiobooks and I would put him up there with Jeff Hays and even Andy Serkis! I honestly recommend giving this book a go just for his narration because there are so many short stories in here that you get to experience a whole range of characters.

The stories themself are entertaining even though some are pretty short. Some stores are more fantasy than sci-fi so that is why I gave it 4 stars over 5. It really is a great audiobook but dont expect every story to be sci-fi. Some might even lean more towards fiction. The benefit to short stories is that you wonder what else could happen in that universe and I hope that Mark Roman and Corben Duke continue these types of stories/books in the future.

In exchange for this honest review I was given this audiobook for free.

Clever sci-fi stories

This audiobook is a collection of very clever and original short sci-fi stories. There are some thought provoking stories in this group and almost all are also humorous. Duncan Galloway gives an outstanding narration.

An interesting collection

The narration was good, lots of voices. The stories were varied, but most had characters that I didn't care if they fell into a black hole or not.

Sci - Fi Shorts

This is a nice collection of short stories. I enjoyed getting to visit many different worlds and characters. Some stories stood out more than others but as a whole this is an engaging collection. Narrator Duncan Galloway does a good job and keeps the listener interested. I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Entertaining Anthology of Short Science Fiction

I love short stories, and science fiction ones tend to land the format well. Sci-Fi Short by Mark Roman and Duncan Galloway delivers nineteen stories ranging from the very short micro-fiction of 100 words to (based on a few guesses) some at around 6,000 words or thereabouts.

This was an entertaining anthology of short science fiction. Some funny, some thoughtful, one actually not science fiction at all but rather a behind-the-scenes look at a Nigerian money scammer which felt a little out of place in a sci-fi anthology.

If I had to choose my favourites from the book, I’d go with:

- The Rovers Return – A story of a repair robot trying to fix the various Mars landers/rovers and accidentally creating the god of all robots.

- We’re Back – no spoilers, but a very short story at 90 seconds long, but with an excellently fun twist.

- The Last Man on Earth – A somewhat sad tale of an elderly man whose dying wish is to be the last man alive on earth, and his robot butler that is trying to help make that come true.

- Farther Christmas – A touching story of a man being questioned by MI5 agents about a Christmas message broadcast specifically for him from 10.5 light years away. And yes, it is “Farther”.

Each chapter is self-contained so it’s easy to listen to in short bursts. The narration by Duncan Galloway was generally well done. Galloway has an easy voice to listen to and well suited the stories. A couple of chapters had issues with the production, where some background noises/shuffling sounds were audible, but for the most part the rest of the stories were clean.

Overall, a great collection of short stories. I’d love to have more of these!

Something Here for Everyone

I received this free audiobook from the author.
Please see my five-star review of Sci-Fi Shorts, Book 2, which I purchased myself.

I really enjoyed the clever stories created by the authors.
Everyone seems to have their favorites. For me, they are:
Tree Hugger
Flies, Damned Flies...
The Jinx
I Laptop

Dialogue is the strong suit in this collection, and I especially love the dialogue in
"Tree Hugger" and "The Jinx." The character voices are hilarious.

What didn't work for me, personally, was the very short stories.
The stories were great, but I thought they needed to be read
to get the full impact, rather than listening to them.

With that said, we all have different tastes, and there is something
here for everyone. Overall, it's a wonderfully, entertaining listen.

Interesting collection of short stories

Disclaimer: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. An interesting collection of short stories. Some of them are quite funny, while others are touching while some explored ideas that are the kind of ideas that you'll get sometimes and think to yourself that they are ridiculous. I like the twists in some of them too, as the story reveals more as it moves forward, and they wound up being really funny. My favourite story is still the Christmas message one, that was simply beautiful. Narration by Duncan Galloway is nice, his different interpretation of how each characters would sound like is wonderful, very fitting and suitable for the nature of this book.

A Collection of Very Entertaining S.F. Shorts

I really enjoyed this collection of science fiction short stories. They cover everything from alien penal colonies to Nigerian lawyers acting for a minister's wife who needs help getting her husband's money out of the country. Because they're short, they're perfect for those times when you only have a few minutes at a time.
Guaranteed to make a science fiction fan smile.

Sci-Fi Shorts

This is a wonderful audio. A series of short stories dealing a wide variety of sy-fy scenes. A few are comical and others can cause deep thought. My favorite is the one about golfing aliens!
Duncan Galloway is a wonderful narrator. His voice as to the stories.
Fantastic audio and stories!
