Publisher's summary

When the hero of Last Thesi disappeared, the world fell into chaos. Outside its walls, life was slowly but surely fading from this world, from man to beast and bug. How do you plan to stop the apocalypse?

Searching for the Eminent: March of the Meek tells the story of Rekco Curse, a 13-year-old boy living a sheltered life in the rural plains just outside of the last inhabited city on the planet—Last Thesi. After the passing of his mother and the mysterious disappearance of his father, Rekco was left in the care of a mercenary named Maven. Could the disappearance of Rekston Curse have some correlation with the decline of civilization? Rekco has dedicated himself to becoming a hero like his father, in hopes that he will find out what happened to him. His anxiety may often get the best of him, but Rekco still approaches any task with optimism, a kind heart, and relentless determination.

When a strange cabin suddenly appears next door to Rekco’s home amidst a nefarious magical storm, everything for him will change.

This coming-of-age tale not only follows the story of Rekco but also the perspective of various characters; from the unusual student-teacher dynamic between the snide wizard prodigy, Kyoku and the eerily kind-hearted, Gofun; to Cathy Wyman, a traumatized orphan living in the rancid slums of Last Thesi, constantly harassed and bullied by the cruel and jealous head matron of the orphanage, Glenda Gace. The way their stories intertwine could determine the fate of the world itself—or simply push them all closer to the coming apocalypse.

The Eminent is brought to life!

This was my first true experience with an audiobook and I will say that I get the appeal now! I have read this book too, but as I’m not much of a reader, I had to get audible and listen. Every character and every scene is acted out in such a captivating way that I found myself listening to the whole book in one day! Awesome series and awesome audiobook.

Well-Executed and Original

Searching for the Eminent: March of the Meek had a little of everything I enjoy in it. It had a lot of the genres I read along with some of the ones I don’t read as much. North was able to fit a ton into this tiny package and the more exciting part is that it will keep going on for another 1-2 books (I believe it was marked as a trilogy).

It’s hard to put a genre onto this one since it fits into so many different boxes – but it had the biggest feel of an action-adventure coming-of-age story. If that sounds interesting to you – be prepared to have so much more going on – but those two genres are the most fitting.

I think what surprised me the most about March of the Meek was that it felt different from any other book I’ve read, and I’ve read a lot. North was able to come up with what felt like a truly original idea and execute it well. There were a few hiccups here and there but overall for an author to be able to pull that off with the amount of media that’s out there is pretty impressive.

Throw in the narration from Scott Fleming, which allows this book to really “come to life” and you’ve got a well-thought-out and even better-executed audiobook. One that, even with the few issues I had personally (not calling them out because they are truly things I don’t think others would be bothered by) I would recommend to anyone looking for something different.

Adventure Filled Coming of Age

There are many battles and moments of action within this book, but it is the inner struggles that are the most telling. A coming-of-age story with action and genuine characters made it an interesting listen. As a child, I longed for such adventure and through the writing of Marvin North and the performance of Scott Fleming, I could live vicariously through this audiobook. I enjoyed this book and will recommend it to my grandchildren.
