About this listen

More than ever, the web is a universal platform for all types of applications, and JavaScript is the language of the web. If you're serious about web development, it's not enough to be a decent JavaScript coder. You need to be ninja stealthy, efficient, and ready for anything. This audiobook shows you how.

Secrets of the JavaScript Ninja, Second Edition uses practical examples to clearly illustrate each core concept and technique. This completely revised edition shows you how to master key JavaScript concepts such as functions, closures, objects, prototypes, and promises. It covers APIs such as the DOM, events, and timers. You’ll discover best practice techniques such as testing and cross-browser development, all taught from the perspective of skilled JavaScript practitioners.

What’s inside:

  • Writing more effective code with functions, objects, and closures
  • Learning to avoid JavaScript application pitfalls
  • Using regular expressions to write succinct text-processing code
  • Managing asynchronous code with promises
  • Fully revised to cover concepts from ES6 and ES7

John Resig is an acknowledged JavaScript authority and the creator of the jQuery library. Bear Bibeault is a web developer and author of the first edition, as well as coauthor of Ajax in Practice, Prototype and Scriptaculous in Action, and jQuery in Action from Manning. Josip Maras is a postdoctoral researcher and teacher.

assert, the way it is be implemented comes up as undefined. at first I thought this was me. but it is not.

the story teller is good. I really like this book. it was the story teller that sold me on buying the Kindle version.

The book is nice but the figures pdf is completely out of sync with the accompanying pdf

The book is well understandable (i am a software engineer) for listeners.
However, the accompanying pdf is not synced to the book. Figure numbers are completely off and the listings are ordered differently than the books structure. And when you find the correct one - something is almost always different (names, flows, etc). It is like if the book got revised and restructured but the pdf was left behind.

A good reading of a very code centric topic

I was initially worried that this might read out every code listing in the book. But thankfully it's didn't. It did often reference code in the PDF. But I was still able to follow most of the book just by listening.

I thought this was worthwhile and I learned a thing or two along the way. I thought it was well done.

Refer to diagram 1A

Every other sentence tells you to refer to a diagram. This may be a great reference, but it is useless as an audiobook. If you want to learn, buy the physical copy. Not this
