Publisher's summary

The Lady has spoken to me.

It has already begun.

Shadows move out of the shrinking desert, south to the rich and arrogant cities of Sembia.

"Be brave, little man," says the shadowman, and the boy thinks his voice is surprisingly soft. "Stay with your mother. This will be over soon." The shadows swallow him and he is gone.

On the edge of a war that will change the face of Faern, the world will find that not all shadows serve Shade.

Fantastic!

A must read...listen to. John tells the story marvelously and Paul writes an adventure you won't forget.

Good Story for Forgotten Realms

I enjoyed reading Kemp's Twilight War series, years ago, and decided to revisit it on audible. If you like dark fantasy in smaller increments, this is a great series. Unfortunately, the narration is terrible in this case. It's as flat as an automated computer voice which really detracts from every aspect of the story, but in particular it ruins the dialogue. I would rather not even see this book on Audible if it's going to be narrated so poorly. It really makes me question whether I want to continue listening to the series.

An amazing ride

Theres no half-stepping here. Characters, descriptions, plot, story and heart.

Paul Kemp is like Capt. Planet of Sword and Sorcery.

what an awesome ride in just every aspect of the story.

not one to leave reviews on stuff often but this was just such a good story and so well written and expertly narrated. I can't wait to start the next one.

Nice Continuance

Where does Shadowbred rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book was very slow to get started, but picked up a little into the story. Therefore, I gave it an average rating since it almost lost me in the beginning.

Would you be willing to try another book from Paul S. Kemp? Why or why not?

Yes, so far I have not been disappointed by Paul's writings.

What does John Pruden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

John does well, but he has limited voice inflecions, so some characters sounded the same. It was not too bad, but noticable at times when certain characters spoke to one another.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

I like the Forgotten Realm stories. The Drizzt books have been published out of order on Audible, so that series unfortunatley lost it's appeal (it's hard to read a book, then go back). That is why I tried this series and so far I've enjoyed them.

a great start, to a great trilogy

fantastic writing, and great narration. I love how the narrator changes his voice for different characters, and doesn't just drone on. I can't wait to start the next one. Just a great story.

Silly

What disappointed you about Shadowbred?

To me this reads like a author who played Dungeons and Dragons too many times. The fantasy is so far out that the only thing you can really expect is that the next vignette will be as fantastic as the last. Why do people in the future speak in Old English?

Did John Pruden do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

yes

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Well read
